Highlights
  • Kleifarvatn Lake - Head southwest from the capital and have your cameras ready as you stop to admire Kleifarvatn. Keep a look out, as this lake is rumored to be hiding odd creatures in its depths.
  • Grnavatn - Grnavatn translates to a green lake which was formed by a volcanic crater. It gets its green color from high content of sulfur and considerable depth (ca 45 m).
  • Geothermal Area Krysuvik - Take a walk between bubbling hot springs on a colorful hillside.
  • Brimketill - Admire spectacular lava cliff with wild breaking waves (and prepare to get wet if you get too close to the edge!)

Please note: Due to the current earthquake and possible eruption, Grindavik and the surrounding area is now closed.
Instead of visiting Brimketill lava rock cliffs and breaking waves we will now take the north coastal road to Vogar.

  • Gunnuhver Hot Springs - Experience one of a kind geothermal area of mud pools with a ghost story embedded in its past. Then spot the Iceland´s oldest lighthouse - Reykjanesviti.

Please note: Due to the current earthquake and possible eruption, Grindavik and the surrounding area is now closed. Instead of Gunnuhver steaming mud pools we will visit Narjarvik and look at the Viking Long Ship and
instead of Reykjanesvíti Lighthouse and bird cliffs we will now drive into Keflavik and visit the Troll lady in her cave.

  • Bridge Between Continents - Finally, find yourself between Europe and North America over a major fissure called the Mid Atlantic Ridge.
  • Keflavik - Tour ends with drop-off at your selected pickup location in Reykjavik at approximately 3:30pm, and you can spend the rest of the day discovering the vibrant capital on your own.

Alternatively, you can be dropped off at the Keflavik airport or the Blue Lagoon, if you have a return flight scheduled for that day or just want to explore Iceland’s most popular sight (please advise at time of booking your desired drop-off location). Airport drop-off is suitable for departure flight times of 4pm or later.

Small friendly tour company - Competent drivers with good knowledge. Very friendly they do all the classics Iceland tours and if you book direct get 15% discount. Small groups. Tip they go with minimum of 4 so a private tour is feasible.

Fun day with a fantastic guide - Our guide, Ian, was exceptional. His knowledge of geology was supplemented with stories of history and events. He pointed out all the interesting places, mixing the right amount of stops and drive bys. He took us to a very local place for lunch. The vehicle was perfect for a pick up with all the luggage and a drop off at the airport. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this tour for anyone who has a late afternoon flight.

Beautiful landscape - The landscape was incredible. It was like walking on the moon! So glad we did this tour. Our flight home wasn't until 8pm, so this was a great way to kill half a day.

Cruise port to Airport...and (oh yeah) see and do a lot along the way! There's more to Iceland than the Ring Road! - Did this last year. Price ($115) still the same a year later. Booked this tour to get from cruise ship port to airport. Ship docked first thing in morning and flight was early evening. Cruise wanted $75 each for transport, and we'd waste the whole day at the airport. PROs: -Small mini-bus with excellent driver/guide. -Great pace, incl lunch stop. -Saw everything we were supposed to, which, surprisingly, is a LOT! Very varied. This southwest corner doesn't get the writeups (aside from eruptions) like the other parts of Iceland (which we've seen). Yeah, we were limited to staying near the airport but we never felt this tour was a compromise, but rather, a WIN as we saw so much, killed time, and got to the airport. -Would consider doing this again if I did another cruise. CONs: -(only for cruisers) The relatively small cruise port is chaos, full of...yep, small mini-buses and big. I ended up using my US phone ($20/day) at the curb to call the tour operator and locate the bus. Get the vehicle reg number beforehand if you can. -We drove right by lighthouse; no stopping. Not sure why....

Wasted opportunity of a tour - I can't believe how many opportunities were lost at planning or executing this tour. To be honest, I feel slightly cheated. Btw, we didn't stop at the lakes though there were lot of places to stop and weather was allowing. I wish we would at least be given explanation why do we skip them. Instead, first hour (at least) was more of Reykjavik properties tour. We were circling over some boring neighborhoods and we learning about what kind of income of people living there, where teenagers assemble, where is expensive but 24h open supermarket, assisted living buildings, fishing factories, mold in concrete, Apple building, etc etc. Later on at the tour we were pointed at every single farm, every single school, every single greenhouse, expanding Ikea, name of the gas station, where our guide had wedding anniversary, which house was farm but now is artist studio and whether guide has been or hasn't been there, which type of houses our guide was considering to buy but didn't and why. Grain silos, gravel pits, ex-car dealers buildings. And list goes on and on and on. I mean... What a useless bunch of information! But then, he wouldn't almost at all announce next stops or when we reach them. Like... How? Why? Isn't it absolutely bare minimum we should hear? Amount of information about geology and geography fades in comparison with all the useless facts about which greenhouse grows what:( All the nature stops were good of course. What else can one say about springs and cliffs? Boy oh boy, this was an absolute torture.

Canceled quire unexpectedly - Late in the evening, literally less than 12 hours before the scheduled start of the tour, we suddenly received an email with last minute cancellation saying that they were unable to run this tour because they can’t meet the minimum numbers of participants. Our tour was with the airport drop-off, so it was quite hectic to rearrange our Flybus pickup and rework the plan for our last day in Iceland. They processed the refund of course (within 10 business days) and offered to arrange a taxi for exactly the same price we could have done ourselves. Next time we will book all our tours with NiceTravel, I have nothing but the nicest words to say about their superb guides, prompt communication and flawless tours. We had done three day tours with them and are ready for more next year.
