Don't miss out on one of the most photographed spots in Icleand! - Took this amazing Iceland on Wheels private tour of the Western peninsula. The company was on our hotel list so was reassured of its legitimacy; they were the ultimate professionals from communication prior to pick ups and guidance. The Western Peninsula is less visited but would highly recommend. Took about 2 hours or so from Reyjkjavik (with a stop 1/2 way for a quick restroom break), and while the drive is long, the views are stunning and lots of lava fields en route. Deyan, our Iceland on Wheels tour guide also took this time to provide insight onto this area, even pointing out the height of the roadside markers, that showed how much snow this area could receive. Rumored that Tolkien was inspired by the Icelandic landscape and lore; and with this trip, one could see why. Once we got to the Peninsula, the sites are fairly close together and not crowded! Started at Snaefellsnes National Park with the beautiful Kirkjufellsfoss mountain and waterfall combination (also highlighted on Fly Over Iceland's photo experience) and from there, we saw Iceland in "miniature" from beaches to cliffs, to landmark sites, like the protector of Iceland, the historic black painted church and a seal colony! There's also a tiny museum with photos and descriptions of the sites that helps to provide further context. Loved loved loved being immersed in this coastal part of Iceland, and were grateful the weather was cooperating. Our tour guide Deyan and Iceland on Wheels made this even more memorable with insider information and a comfortable ride. A perfect way to see the Western coast!
