Highlights
  • Jameson Distillery Bow St. - We will stop here and discuss whiskey production in the area, in particular the old Jameson Distillery.
  • Fidelity Bar - We will stop here to have a quick beer from local brewery Whiplash. Fidelity is a fantastic bar, with a slick interior and audiophile design. Whiplash make cutting edge craft beer, some of the best in Ireland.
  • St. Catherine’s Church - We will stop briefly here, at the site of the execution of revolutionary leader Robert Emmett.
  • Guinness Open Gate Brewery - We will stop at St James’s Gate, the site of the Guinness Brewery, as well as the Open Gate Brewery, Guinness’s small, craft brewery. We won’t stop for a drink but will discuss the impact the Guinness Brewery and family have had on the surrounding area and the city as a whole.
  • Roe & Co Distillery - We will stop here to discuss the old George Roe Distillery as well as the modern Roe and Co Distillery now on the site.
  • Pearse Lyons Distillery - We will stop to discuss the Pearse Lyons distillery and admire the architecture of the visitor centre.
  • Guinness Storehouse - We will pass by the Guinness Storehouse, admiring the imposing architecture and discussing the rich history of the area.
  • Gray Street - We will walk through the Liberties area of Dublin, once the largest whiskey producing region in the world. The streets are full of character and interesting history.
  • Teeling Whiskey Distillery - We will swing by the Teeling Distillery, a leading light in Ireland’s whiskey revival.
  • The Dublin Liberties Distillery - Finally, we will pass by the Dublin Liberties Distillery. A modern distillery, producing only single malt and nestled in a historic part of the city.
  • John Fallon’s “The Capstan Bar” - We will finish up in Fallon’s, also known as The Capstan Bar. This is a fantastic little pub, serving fantastic pints of Guinness and with an excellent selection of whiskey from distilleries passed along the tour. I highly recommend setting aside time to enjoy this pub after our long walk.

Additional Information

Dublin was once the biggest whiskey producing region in the world. Come along and see where the great distilleries of the 19th century once were as well as where some of the most exciting distilleries of the 21st century have set up. That’s not to mention the Brewing culture, past and present of the city. Guinness are the giants of Irish beer, but there are great small breweries that I look forward to introducing you to.

The listed itinerary is flexible and can be potentially changed to accommodate particular interests. As listed, it involves about 4km of walking (60-75 minutes) through some of the oldest, most historic and characterful parts of the city, with a few stops along the way at points of interests and recommended watering holes.

As an industry veteran, I can provide insight into the industry as well as give off-the-beaten-track recommendations, so you can experience the city, and its drinks, as a local does.
