New Delhi to Agra

Taj Mahal - Arrive in the morning at Delhi Airport and then travel by road to the city of Agra, home of the Taj Mahal. Stop at a good restaurant for refreshments. The drive from the airport to Agra is approximately 240 km and takes about 4 hours. Upon arrival in Agra, check into the hotel and rest. In the afternoon, we will explore the monumental heritage of the Great Mughals, including the magnificent Taj Mahal. This wonder of the world is the most extravagant expression of love ever created, with 20,000 men working for over 17 years to build this memorial to Shah Jahan’s beloved wife. The Taj Mahal, made of white marble and semi-precious stones, is undoubtedly the highlight of our tour. Later, we will tour the imposing Agra Fort, built of red sandstone and marble. This hilltop citadel features fabulous courtyards, fountains, and gates. The rest of the evening is free to explore the local handicrafts and shopping centers of the city, where you can find marble inlay work, fine quality carpets, Zari and embroidery, and leather goods. Overnight stay at the hotel.

Agra to Ranthambhore 200 km 5 hours drive directly

Ranthambhore Tiger Reserve - On the way, stop at Fatehpur-Sikri, the abandoned city of Akbar, known as the world’s most perfectly preserved ghost city. Built by Akbar in the late 16th century, it was abandoned after only 14 years, and the elegant buildings of this superb walled city remain intact to this day. In the afternoon, we continue to Ranthambhore, famous for its wildlife sanctuary, which is said to have India’s friendliest tigers and is considered the best place in the world to photograph tigers in their natural habitat.

Ranthambhore

Ranthambhore Tiger Reserve - Early morning and evening Jeep safari in the forest with a tour guide.

Ranthambhore to Jaipur (the pink city of India) approx. 140 km and 4 hours drive

Jaipur Wax Museum - Travel from Ranthambhore to Jaipur (the Pink City of India), approximately 140 km and a 4-hour drive. Upon arrival, check into the hotel and proceed to explore the city attractions. Founded by Maharaja Jai Singh II, this pink city is meticulously constructed according to the Shilpa-Shastra, an ancient Hindu treatise on architecture. In the evening, we will visit Chokhi Dhani, an ethnic village resort where the vibrant Rajasthani folk culture comes alive as children dance rhythmically to folk songs sung by men and women in bright clothes. Gaily decorated camels, horses, and bullock carts offer joy rides.

Jaipur

Jaipur Blue Pottery Art Centre - After breakfast at the hotel, we will visit the hilltop fortress Amber Fort, ascending the imposing fort on a painted elephant. We will wander among glittering inlays and the Hall of Mirrors. We will stop to view the elegant Hawa Mahal (Palace of Winds), an elaborate building now little more than a façade, encrusted with delicate screens and carved balconies from which the royal ladies, confined to their quarters, could sneak views of the outside world. After lunch, we will tour the Maharaja’s City Palace, now partly a museum displaying a unique fusion of Mughal and Hindu architecture, and housing a rare collection of paintings, Rajput armor, and costumes. Later, we will visit the unique Jantar Mantar Observatory, situated in the heart of the city, where time has been accurately measured since the 17th century. In the evening, explore the bazaars of Jaipur, where you can shop for jewelry, paintings, block prints, textiles, carpets, brassware, blue pottery, and more.
