Learn about the Northern Lights in a comfortable classroom setting. Understand the science behind the Aurora Borealis. You also get an introduction to the cultural significance of the Northern lights.
Gain practical skills in forecasting Aurora activity and capturing stunning photographs of the lights. Our guides will ensure you leave with both more knowledge and stellar pictures of the Northern Lights.
Workshop duration is approximately 45 minutes. We’ll continue with more practical forecasting and photography information in the field.
We head out, equipped with the skills and knowledge acquired during the workshop. We’ll closely monitor cloud and aurora forecasts to find the best locations for the Northern Lights.
Warm drinks and snacks are provided to keep everyone comfortable during the Aurora hunt. You’ll gain insights into the local area, culture and nature. A memorable experience filled with learning and magic of Lapland!
Total duration of the activity is approximately four hours and we return to Ivalo between 22:00 and 23:00.

Join us on a unique four-hour adventure in Northern Lapland that blends an introduction to the science of the Aurora Borealis with an exhilarating hunt for the Northern Lights.
We start by gathering at the Xwander Basecamp in Ivalo for a Northern Lights workshop. Here, you’ll learn about the science and cultural importance of the Northern Lights, as well as techniques for forecasting and photographing them.
Following the workshop, you’ll be outfitted with winter overalls and boots, ready for the Aurora Adventure. We’ll set out in comfortable minibuses to the most promising locations for the evening. Our seasoned guides keep a close watch on cloud and aurora forecasts to ensure we have the best chance of witnessing this magical phenomenon. Using our extensive network of routes, we’ll explore the wilderness of the Inari municipality, an area with minimal light pollution that provides ideal viewing conditions.
