Highlights

cusco-ollantaytambo-km.104-Wiñayhuayna-MACHUPICCHU

Ollantaytambo - Our adventure begins very early, we will pick up at 4 a.m. from Cusco, then we travel to the train station, where we will depart at 6:10 a.m. from Ollantaytambo.

As we traverse the Sacred Valley, you’ll see spectacular views of farmland, snow-capped mountains, and the mighty Urubamba River, which is one of the sources of the Amazon River. We head to the starting point of the Inca Trail, known as “Chachabamba” or Km 104 (2,150 m / 6,927 feet). Around 07:00 hours, we will be at the “INRENA Machu Picchu” checkpoint, where we must show our original passport and we will immediately begin to prepare our trekking equipment.

Winay Wayna - After taking a group photo we will begin to visit the first archaeological site, which will be Chachabamba, then we will continue walking for three hours, we will arrive at the most beautiful Inca site on the Camino: Wiñay Wayna (Always Young) at 2,600 m / 8,500 feet. Most people have the opportunity to see an elaborate water fountain, temples, some agricultural products, and terraces, which offer a perfect opportunity to learn about the history of the Incas. At the end of the guided tour we go to the lunch place.

Machu Picchu - After a hearty lunch, we continue our walk for another two hours, arriving at Intipunku or “the Gate of the Sun” (2730 m / 9007 feet), from where we can appreciate the impressive, first views of the incredible citadel of Machu Picchu.
After taking photographs and resting we continued for another 1 hour this time all downhill until we reached Machupicchu.

Once you arrive at Machu Picchu, you will have time to take more photographs from the observation platforms above the site (Casa de Guardia), where you can take the famous postcard photographs of Machu Picchu
Since we meet fewer people in the afternoon which gives you the opportunity to enjoy this magical experience, we then head to take the bus to Aguas Calientes, then to your hotel. You will have a delicious dinner and have time to walk around this small town, visit the hot springs or simply go to your hotel to rest after such an exciting day.

Machupicchu historic sanctuary

Santuario Historico de Machu Picchu - This is the day you have been waiting for. After an early breakfast at your hotel, you will take one of the first buses to Machu Picchu so you can be there and witness the sunrise. It is a truly extraordinary site and not something you want to miss. Your guide will give you a guided tour of Machu Picchu, which lasts approximately two hours. You will see many of the most important parts of the Machu Picchu Citadel.

After your tour, those who have pre-booked the additional hike to Huayna Picchu will have time to enjoy those views on the way back. We took the bus back to Aguas Calientes for lunch.

The Expedition train will take you back to Ollantaytambo at 2:55 or 3:20 p.m. Your driver will meet you at the exit of the train station to take you back to your hotel in Cusco in our private vehicle. You can expect to arrive at your hotel by 7:00 p.m. Cusco.
