As a digital nomad, I often find myself chasing unique experiences across Southeast Asia. When I heard about the Mt Bromo Sunrise - Ijen Blue Fire tour, I knew it was a must-do. The car was surprisingly comfortable, which was a blessing given the early hour and the long drive ahead.

The second leg of our adventure began in the early hours of the morning, as we set off towards the Ijen Crater. Although we were unable to witness the famed Blue Fire due to safety restrictions, the experience was no less awe-inspiring. The landscape around Ijen was a testament to nature’s raw power and beauty, with the turquoise lake shimmering in the early light.

Our local guide equipped us with headlamps and gas masks, ensuring our safety as we embarked on the steep 3km hike. The trail was challenging but rewarding, each step bringing us closer to the crater’s edge. As we reached the summit, the view was nothing short of spectacular, a sweeping vista of volcanic majesty.

After the hike, we made our way to Ketapang Port, where we would catch the ferry to Bali. Along the way, we stopped for breakfast at a charming local spot, savoring the rich flavors of Indonesian coffee. Melati and Tobi’s attention to detail extended to booking our ferry tickets, ensuring a seamless transition to the next chapter of our journey.

Reflecting on the experience, I am filled with gratitude for the memories made and the incredible people I met along the way.
