The first stop is the Kaliadem Bunker, where visitors can enjoy a stunning sunrise view of Mount Merapi. The second destination is the mini-museum, a historical site from the 2010 eruption. Lastly, explore the Alien Stone, a fascinating rock that resembles an alien face, thrown during the eruption.
- Borobudur Temple - After the Mount Merapi exploration, the journey continues to Borobudur Temple, approximately an hour away. As the largest Buddhist temple in the world, managed by UNESCO, it is a must-visit. The temple has 10 levels and remains active for Buddhist worship. Visitors should dress respectfully for this tour. Since 2020, Borobudur Temple has limited visitors to 1,200 per day and 150 per hour, but rest assured, all tickets will be arranged, including an English-speaking guide, sandals, and drinking water. Borobudur was hidden for centuries under volcanic ash and jungle growth, and the reasons for its abandonment remain a mystery. It is unclear when the monument ceased to be actively used for Buddhist pilgrimage, sometime between 928 and 1006.
- Prambanan Temple - Dating back to the 8th to 9th century CE, the temple compounds are associated with the historic Mataram Kingdom that ruled Central Java. The Shailendras, the ruling family, were known for their temple-building prowess. Temples like Kalasan, Sari, and Sewu are attributed to their second monarch, King Panangkaran. Sewu, the oldest, was completed in 792, as per the Manjusrigrha inscription. Lumbung and Bubrah also date from this period or slightly later. Prambanan, the latest addition, was completed and inaugurated in 856 during King Pikatan’s reign, according to the Shivagrha inscription.
