As a retired teacher with a penchant for road trips, I often find myself yearning for the open road and the stories it holds. This time, my wanderlust led me to the rugged beauty of Cape Breton, where I embarked on an unforgettable UTV/ATV tour. The journey began with a scenic drive from the Port of Sydney, where our guide, Turk, and his partner, Kathy, awaited us with warm smiles and a sense of adventure.

The drive itself was a nostalgic reminder of my youthful road trips across America. Our driver, a local with a wealth of knowledge, shared tales of the region’s history as we crossed the Seal Island Bridge and ascended Kelly’s Mountain. Each turn offered a new vista, a new story, and a new memory to cherish. The roadside stop at St. Ann’s look-off was a particular highlight, offering a breathtaking view that seemed to stretch into eternity.

Upon reaching Hunter’s Mountain, we transitioned from the comfort of our vehicle to the thrill of a side-by-side UTV. Turk led the way, guiding us through the backwoods trails of the Cape Breton Highlands. Our destination was Cape Clear, a vantage point that offers an unparalleled view of the highlands and the Margaree River below. As we enjoyed a trailside lunch, lovingly prepared by Turk and Kathy, I couldn’t help but feel a deep connection to the land and its stories.
