The journey begins at Aristi or Papigko Bridge in northwestern Zagori, offering an accessible path for everyone through the third section of the Vikos Gorge, which has been part of the Vikos – Aoos National Park since 1973.
The river’s name is derived from the Slavic language (Bode–Mat, meaning “good water”) or from Greek (Voidomatis, meaning “eye of the bull”).
Along the trail, participants will see the remarkable Spiliotissa Monastery, built into a rock, and visit the historic Agioi Anargyroi Church, constructed in 1658.
The route concludes at the Kleidonia single-arched stone bridge, built in 1853 to connect the villages of Agios Minas and Aristi to the Konitsa plain, as well as linking Konitsa town to Ioannina city.
At the end of the excursion, visitors can savor a meal featuring traditional local recipes by the river.
