Situated along the Dniester River, Tipova Monastery is a remarkable rock-carved monastic complex, considered the most impressive in Moldova and among the largest in Europe. Spanning multiple levels over a vast area, this monastery once accommodated over 700 monks in its hermitages, and today, there are hundreds of monk cells in the vicinity.
The origins of this monastic community trace back to a time before the Moldovan feudal state was established. It is believed that some cells were carved into the rocks along the Dniester’s banks as early as the 10th-12th centuries, providing refuge from barbarian invasions.
The landscape here is breathtaking: the serene Dniester waters, steep cliffs hiding hundreds of cells and caves, the natural beauty, and waterfalls.
After exploring the Tipova reservation, the tour will continue to the picturesque village of Lalova, where lunch will be enjoyed at a charming guesthouse - Hanul lui Hanganu.
