Your basic "RIP-OFF" - Let me start by saying the substitute "guide" that was arranged by Johnny Be Good (JBG) was a very pleasant individual...but that's not what we paid $175/person for. We were looking for some history of the country and city. For that kind of $ I would have expected to be driven in a van to see more of the region than just a walking tour of the old town and market. Oh yes, we took a tuk-tuk ride for about 1 hour each way (3 person to a T-T instead of the more comfortable 2 persons) in noxious fumes from buses, etc. to get to the manatee rescue center. The center is well worth the visit but not in the manner in which we got there and back. Lunch was on our agenda but we were so "EXHAUSTED" (pun intended), we passed on that to return directly to our hotel. JBG had surgery, we were told. Certainly we could have been advised of that before so that we could have made other arrangements. There were 5 of us...total $900. No group rate, no negotiation,. Cost to JBG...pay a friend of his to walk us through the market, pay two Tuk-Tuk drivers 3 hours of time...that's it!!!! Finally, I'm a seasoned traveler, always arranging for private tours. I expected to pay that much but most always, that price would include a car, driver and English speaking professional tour guide. I feel this was a waste of the precious brief time we hade in Iquitos. Highly recommend someone else for your guide.
