DAY 1
Guests will be picked up from the airport or hotel and transferred to Nauta town, a journey of approximately 2 hours by highway. Nauta is known as the Gateway to the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve.
From Nauta, the group will embark on a boat trip upstream on the Marañon River for about 3 hours to reach the Community of Santo Domingo.
During the navigation along the Marañon River, participants will have the opportunity to admire the stunning landscapes and the diverse flora and fauna, including river dolphins, birds, and more.
Upon arrival, registration will take place at the ranger station of Pacaya Samiria.
After registration, the journey continues with a 30-minute navigation to the Community of Buenos Aires, where wildlife along the riverbanks can be observed, such as herons, large-billed terns, black-collared hawks, kingfishers, cormorants, egrets, and more.
A typical lunch made from local ingredients will be enjoyed.
In the afternoon, a jungle walk into the primary forest will be conducted to observe wildlife, including monkeys, birds, insects, rodents, reptiles, and amphibians in their natural habitat.
A delicious dinner will be served.
A night walk through the ecological reserve will follow, as biological activity in the Amazonian ecosystem varies greatly between night and day. This adventure into the forest after dark will reveal nocturnal sounds and species that only appear at night.
Overnight stay in the jungle.
DAY 2
An early morning expedition will offer the chance to enjoy the beautiful natural scenery and wildlife along the riverbanks, the best time to spot various species of birds, primates, and sloths.
Breakfast will be served with refreshing fruit juice.
A jungle walk of 2-3 hours will explore a lake or cocha to discover the rich biodiversity, flora, and fauna of the primary forest, including different species of birds, sloths, and monkeys in their natural habitat. An ethnobotanical walk will also be conducted, featuring the Lupuna (Ceiba pentandra), the largest tree in the Amazon rainforest, which can exceed 50 meters. Various birds, insects, arachnids, reptiles, and amphibians will be observed. With luck, different kinds of boas, including anacondas and jaguars, may be seen near the lake’s shore.
A typical lunch will be enjoyed.
A boat ride will offer the chance to try artisanal piranha fishing, guided by an instructor who will provide all necessary equipment. Skillful participants may catch other fish species.
Observation of pink dolphins (Inia geoffrensis) and gray dolphins or tucuxis will be possible, with an opportunity to swim in the Pucate River within Pacaya Samiria.
A night expedition will search for black and white caimans along the riverbanks, as well as nocturnal birds, rodents, and mammals, all observed in the silence of the night from a canoe.
Accommodation will be in camping tents, with an overnight stay in the heart of the forest.
DAY 3
An early morning expedition will provide a final opportunity to observe more wildlife along the riverbanks, the best time to spot various species of birds, primates, and other animals.
A delicious breakfast will be served.
The return journey will begin, with a stop at the Buenos Aires community to stretch and shop for beautiful handicrafts made by local inhabitants. Purchases will contribute to local development.
