Ruaha National Park - An early in the morning we depart Dar es salaam around 5:00 am to Ruaha national park, an eight hours drive from Dar es salaam. We will stop at Mikumi for breakfast and lunch at Iringa and continue to drive until Ruaha national park. Ruaha National Park is Tanzania’s largest, a vast wilderness in the south-west of the country visited by only a handful of travelers each year. At the park’s heart is the aptly-named Great Ruaha River

Ruaha National Park, situated in the south-western corner of Tanzania, is the country’s biggest natural reserve, seeing only a few visitors a year. The park is centred around the appropriately named Great Ruaha River, a gigantic river that during dry seasons, shrinks to mere puddles, but in the rainy season, it overflows, thunderously cascading over rocks. Numerous sand rivers merge with the Great Ruaha, serving as genetic game paths when dry and shiny, clear brooks when wet. The Ruaha’s banks are a constant battlefield for survival as waterbuck, impala, and the earth’s most southern Grant’s gazelle risk everything for a drink - it’s also a permanent hunting ground for lion, leopard, cheetah, jackal, hyena and the scarce and threatened African wild dog.
