Your tour guide will pick you up from your hotel at 10:00 am and take you to the most famous mosque in Egypt, Al Azhar Mosque. If it’s Friday, you’ll attend Jumm’ah prayer. Afterward, you’ll visit another renowned mosque, Al Hussien Mosque.
In this area, you can shop for Islamic clothing as it is filled with stores selling various types of Islamic attire and more.
Next, you’ll have lunch at a local restaurant where you can try one of the most common Egyptian meals, ‘Kosharii.’
After lunch, continue your tour to other historical, less-visited mosques, including El Sayeda Zeinab Mosque in Cairo. This mosque is dedicated to the granddaughter of the Prophet Mohamed, ‘May Prayers and Peace be upon him.’ Her mosque is located in the heart of the square named after her.
Al Sayeda Zeinab is also the youngest daughter of Al Sayeda Fatima, the Prophet’s daughter, and his cousin Ali Ibn Abi Taleb. She is the sister of the two Imams, Al Hassan and Al Hussein.
Her mosque was established shortly after her arrival in Egypt during the new crescent moon of Shaaban (the eighth month of the Hegira calendar) in the year 61 A.H (AD 680 - 681). Upon her arrival in the small village of Al Abassah in Al Sharkia governorate, east of Delta, she was welcomed by the Umayyad governor of Egypt, Maslama Ibn Makhlid Al Ansary.
She later settled in Al Fustat city, the first Islamic capital of Egypt, where she was hosted by Maslama. Then, visit the mosque of Sayyida Nafisa, located 150 meters south of El-Sayyida Nafisa Square. It was built by Abbas Helmy II during the dynasty of Mohammed Ali Pasha.
Next, visit El-Sayyida Nafisa Mosque, dedicated to a revered member of Prophet Mohammed’s family, who is highly respected in Egypt. End your day tour with a visit to the oldest mosque in Africa, Amr Ibn al’As Mosque. This mosque, the first and oldest in Egypt, was erected in 642 AD (21 AH) by Amr Ibn al’As, the commander of the Muslim army that conquered Egypt. It is also known as Taj al-Jawamie.
Finally, visit Ahmed Ibn Tulun Mosque, completed in 879 AD on Mount Yashkur in a settlement named al-Qata’i by Ahmad ibn Tulun, the founder of Egypt’s Tulunid Dynasty (868-905 AD). Al-Qata’i was about two kilometers from the old community of Fustat. Ahmad ibn Tulun, born in Baghdad to a Turkish slave of Mongol origin owned by the Caliph al-Ma’mun, rose to become the governor of Egypt after his stepfather’s death in 870.
The mosque, built over three years from mudbrick, became the focal point of the Tulunid capital, which lasted only 26 years.
At the end of the tour, around 6:00 pm, you’ll be transferred back to your hotel.
