Istanbul Old City Tour B - L
Topkapi Palace - Topkapi Palace, one of the largest surviving palaces globally, was constructed between 1460 and 1478 by order of Sultan Mehmed II, shortly after his conquest of Constantinople. It served as the residence of the Ottoman Sultans for nearly four centuries.
Hippodrome - The original Hippodrome was established when the city was known as Byzantium, a moderately important provincial town. In AD 203, Emperor Septimius Severus rebuilt the city, expanded its walls, and added a hippodrome for chariot races and other entertainment.
Blue Mosque - Built between 1609 and 1616 by architect Mehmet Ağa under Sultan Ahmed I’s orders, the Blue Mosque was designed to showcase imperial power, complementing the grand Hagia Sophia Mosque across Sultanahmet Square.
Hagia Sophia Mosque - Hagia Sophia has been constructed three times on the same site. The current structure, known as the “Third Hagia Sophia,” began under Constantine I, who made Christianity the Roman Empire’s official religion. Initially built as a wooden-roofed basilica on Istanbul’s first hill, it was completed during Constantine II’s reign in 360. No remnants remain from this structure, which was largely destroyed by fire during a revolt in 404.
Kapali Carsi - The Grand Bazaar’s origins trace back to Sultan Mehmet II’s era in the 15th century. He initiated the construction of covered bazaars, or “bedesten,” initially for fabrics and silks, which gradually expanded to include various products.

Bosphorus Bridge - A swift current flows from the Black Sea to the Sea of Marmara, with a countercurrent below carrying more saline water from the Sea of Marmara to the Black Sea. The shores are lined with old wooden villas, marble palaces, fortresses, and quaint fishing villages. The tour passes the magnificent Dolmabahce Palace and the parks and imperial pavilions of Yildiz Palace. Ciragan Palace, with its 300-meter marble facade, faces the shore. At Ortakoy, artists gather every Sunday to showcase their work. Ortakoy symbolizes tolerance, with a church, mosque, and synagogue coexisting for centuries. The tour concludes with a transfer to Ankara.
