Corinth Canal - The half-day Ancient Corinth tour starts with a 45-mile drive along the National highway. We will reach the well-known Corinthian canal or else Isthmus canal that connects the Saronic Sea and the Corinthian Sea.
The canal, though executed in the late 19th century, has been a 2000-year-old dream. Before its construction, ships in the Aegean Sea that wanted to cross to the Adriatic or anchor in Corinth, a rich shipping city, had to circle the Peloponnese, which would prolong their journey an extra 185 nautical miles.
It is believed that Periander, the tyrant of Corinth (602 BC), was the first to conceive of the idea of digging the Corinth Canal. As the project was too complicated given the limited technical capabilities of the times, Periander constructed the diolkós, a stone road which allowed ships to be transferred on wheeled platforms.
On 67 AD that Emperor Nero attempted the construction of the canal with a group of 6,000 slaves. But he was murdered before the plans were finalized. Finally, the construction of the canal came to an end at the last decade of the 19th century.

Corinth by Day - Phenomenal!!! A week wonderful experience with an amazing excellent guide. Apostles provided so much historical references as well as biblical. We so enjoyed the tour.

I can hardly wait to return to Corinth. - First, the tour company is fantastic. Our guide was friendly, informative, and accommodating.
Second, Corinth is beautiful. Like Athens there is a lot to see (not quite so much, but far more beautiful).
The early June weather was perfect. The food, delicious. The sights, incredible.
The Acrocorinth was a difficult hike to the top (much less foot traffic the higher you go) but the view from the Frankish Tower was well worth the effort.

Wonderful Tours with a Fascinating Guide - Michaela was a spectacular guide. She is full of energy and dynamically led us on tours of Corinth, Mycenae and Epidaurus over 1 1/2 days. Her depth of knowledge was incredible, and she truly made the ancient history come alive with historical details. She was interested in what we wanted to see and do and was creative and obliging for photos. There was not a question she could not answer, and she climbed stairs and challenging paths and guided us through museums expertly. We learned so much, and she is a gifted and knowledgeable guide.

Recommendable! - We had a beautiful tour to ancien Corinth from Athens. The guide was very knowledgeable and the car (minivan) superb. A very safe driver too.

My Fourth Tour with H.P. Tours! - This is the fourth time I have used H.P. Tours for my tour and travel needs. They are the consummate professionals, attentive to our needs and any/all requests. Our group’s specialized focus was on a Footsteps of the Apostle Paul Tour, and I have counted all. Left Wanting More - About an hour or so longer than we had planned, mostly from an unexpected lunch break; luckily we had already cancelled a later afternoon tour with another company. Even so, another hour at Acrocorinth would have been great - you might want to consider making this a full-day tour. Did very much enjoy the knowledge our driver shared and what we did see in Ancient Corinth and Acrocorinth.
