This exploration journey encompasses major landmarks of the Peloponnese, which span both ancient and contemporary times, from the Homeric city of Mycenae, to Epidauros, Palamidi Castle in Nafplio, and the Corinth Canal. Mycenae’s kingdom was an early grand hub of Greek culture, with evidence of habitation on this location dating back to the second millennium BC. As per Homer’s accounts, Mycenae housed King Agamemnon, who steered the Greeks in their battle against the Trojans to recover Helen, his brother Menelaus’ wife. During your visit, catch a glimpse of the Lion Gate, which served as the gateway to the royal court and palace. Our journey further leads to Epidaurus, home to the globally celebrated Epidaurus theatre. Erected in the 4th century BC, its claim to fame is the flawless acoustics that allow for clear audibility of stage-spoken words throughout the audience. Venturing further into history, we’ll also pay a visit to the Palamidi Castle in Nafplio, a structure built by the Venetians and known to have an alleged 999 steps.
