A full day not to be forgotten - This was a very well-organized tour. We were picked up in a Mercedes minivan, and there were four of us on the tour, my wife and I and two young men from New Zealand who were living in Berlin. Danae was our group leader, and Costas was our driver. The trip to Mycenae was pleasantly conversational, with a brief 20 minute stop at the Corinth Canal and a photo op. Then on to Mykines to visit the ancient capital of Mycenae. Our Blue Badge guide lived up to my expectations and managed to surprise me with new insights, even though I'd studied all that area since I was in high school. The weather cooperated, which is good because other than a couple of museums attached to the sites everything was outdoors and required a lot of walking. While I (69 y.o.) was able to walk and climb throughout the exhibits, my wife who is mobility challenged mainly traveled up to the entrance of the acropolis using a rolling walker due to the slopes which were a little daunting. The sights were really sights at Mycenae, and you could trace the excavations and follow the plan of the palace due to the maps and models of the place in the museum which we entered before. Entrance fees were €6 per person each for the two major sites, Mycenae and Epidaurus. Lots of pictures and climbing and wandering on our own later, we got back to the van and Costas took us to Nafplio, and some free time. We wandered around the tourist areas and gawked at the castles from afar, then headed toward old town. After a bit we sought out lunch from a seafood restaurant, one of many lining the beachfront, and it was time to travel to Epidaurus. Note: my wife and I in our former lives were theatre professors, and both had "covered" the theatre at Epidaurus for at least 35 years. Nothing can prepare you for the experience, though. We became freshman theatre students on a tour again. Yes, the acoustics were wonderful. and nearly every tour group had a "performer" trying them out. People were respectful and took turns. Lots of pictures and videos and climbing. The theatre itself is a huge bowl of steps with a flat stage area. What we didn't know is that this was primarily a place for people under the care of the healing temple of Asclepius to perform and comment on their traumas with the hope of a cure for them. Most of the other Greek theatres were about celebrating the culture and honoring many gods, in Epidaurus it was about the audience and the performers creating wellness. The tour then led through the temple of Asclepius, baths, sleeping quarters, locations of healing snakes (!!) which sprawled over several acres. Most of them are foundations only, as are the buildings at Mycenae. So: yes it was and experience that was amazing and for a mythology/history/theatre geek such as myself it was an energizing experience. From the quiet on the drive back, you could tell that our tour group was tired and awed by the tour. You will probably be too.

I was very pleased with... - I was very pleased with the tour. Debbie made the trip from Athens fun with lots of history and mythology behind the region. The guide inside the locations was also quite knowledgeable. While we typically explore on our own and at our own pace the tour was a different experience. I certainly appreciate the knowledge and experience from our guides. I would have liked a little more time to explore on our own but understand the time restraints. If I were to do it again I might look for a multi day trip.

A great day spent outside of Athens! - Alex was our driver for this tour and we were so pleased. He was proactive and attentive to our needs as one in our party suffers from vertigo. The drive was smooth and he delivered wonderfully commentary about Athens and our intended destinations. His command of the English language is amazing and he is very professional, but also personable. Ms. Patti was our guide to the sites at Epidaurus and Mycenae and was wonderfully informative. We felt that we had enough time at the different locations. We were able to have a nice lunch in Nafplio and walk about a bit. It's a place we would definitely visit again. The day did not feel rushed at all. Alex did a great job with the timing and on the way back we were treated to more beautiful views. We would definitely recommend this tour and hope that you get Alex as a driver!

Great to step outside Athens and explore! - My husband and I really enjoyed our trip to Mycenae, Epidaurus and the quaint city of Nafplio. Our driver was Alex and he was wonderful. It was such a smooth drive with beautiful coastline views, and he paired it at times with wonderfully informing commentary. His command of the English language is so impressive and he was the perfect guide. We felt safe and well-cared for throughout the trip! He was also attentive and proactive to our needs for a smooth drive due to vertigo concerns which was really appreciated. We also enjoyed our time at the beehive tomb and museum in Mycenae and the museum and theater in Epidaurus with guide, Ms. Patti. Alex timed the excursion wonderfully where we had enough time to see the sites, and have lunch in Nafplio without having to rush. I would highly recommend this tour and hope that you get Alex as a guide!

Not to be missed - A fantastic excursion! I was one of only 2 visitors on this tour - off season. So grateful that the company did not cancel this tour! A fascinating place and a highly knowledgeable guide. Epidauros was a sanctuary to the god of medicine and healing Asclepius. Did you know that his daughter was giddes Hygiene? The .museum has several curious and funny "prescriptions" for various cures that were given to patients there. Turns out that in addition to healthful diet, healing natural mineral water and physical exercise, patients also participated in the arts as a,part of their spa experience. So the sanctuary had, in addition to the temple, a stadium, hotel, restaurant and theater. Our guide showed us the best preserved ancient theater where they hold a modern theater festival every year. An unforgettable tour!

Very informative trip with Gari - Mycenae and Epidaurus are very important historically and should be visited by everyone. Apart from the theatre in Epidaurus and a tomb in Mycenae, there isn't much left standing though. Therefore it only makes sense to visit with someone who will give you the story. Getaways Greece did a great job with that. The guide, Gari, was providing very interesting stories and information throughout the trip. At Mycenae there is a separate local guide, who was also very informative and knowledgable. There is a local guide at Epidaurus as well, but this part felt a bit rushed imo, even though we did have enough time to explore on our own. Also, in Nafplio there should be more time for lunch imo. Nonetheless, a great trip altogether.
