Torre Foghe - Punta Foghe is a stunning natural wonder, sculpted over thousands of years by the persistent forces of erosion. This striking plateau concludes with steep cliffs that descend into the sea, embellished with rocky islets and hidden coves. The main cove, situated near the river’s mouth, can be reached via a picturesque trail beginning at the base of Torre Foghe. Constructed in the late 16th century by the Spanish and deserted in the mid-19th century, the 10-meter-high watchtower, made of basalt and red volcanic rock, includes a domed circular chamber with a fireplace and an exterior staircase leading to the terrace. From this vantage point, visitors can enjoy expansive views of the Sardinian coastline, dotted with other Spanish towers rising above the coves. This location offers a genuine mix of history, rugged landscapes, and unmatched vistas, making it a must-visit for those who appreciate nature and culture.
-
Torre di Columbargia - The Columbargia Tower stands majestically on a red trachyte promontory overlooking the pristine natural beauty of Sa Marinedda Beach (also known as Cala della Torre di Columbargia). This historic structure is part of the defensive network designed by the Aragonese to safeguard Sardinia’s coasts. Alongside the nearby towers of Ischia Ruja, Foghe, and Bosa, it was constructed in the latter half of the 16th century. The tower not only offers insight into Sardinia’s rich maritime history but also provides visitors with breathtaking views of an untouched Mediterranean landscape, making it a must-see for nature lovers, history enthusiasts, and those seeking an authentic Sardinian experience.
-
Torre di Ischia Ruggia - The Tower of Ischia Ruja is a captivating remnant of the defensive system devised by the Aragonese to protect Sardinia’s coastlines. After Sardinia came under the control of the Crown of Aragon in 1478, coastal villages were tasked with defending the island’s shores against increasing pirate incursions. By 1479, following the union of Ferdinand II of Aragon and Isabella of Castile, the Spanish Crown was established, bringing new focus to coastal defense. The tower, strategically located, safeguarded vital fishing and maritime activities, embodying the island’s rich history.
