Additional Information

Discover St. Peter’s Basilica and Dome like never before, from a height of 136 meters. Enjoy breathtaking views of Rome on a self-guided tour.

Located in Vatican City, St. Peter’s Basilica is a testament to enduring religious significance and remarkable architectural brilliance. Commissioned by Pope Julius II in the 16th century, this magnificent basilica was built on what is believed to be the burial site of Saint Peter.

Begin your journey by ascending the dome, where you can closely observe the interior mosaics while an audio guide narrates the church’s history. Marvel at the sweeping views of St. Peter’s Square and the Vatican Gardens.

Upon descending from the dome, take in the beauty of Michelangelo’s Pietà, Bernini’s Baldacchino, and the tombs of St. Peter and other popes. With a digital map and 27 designated listening points, the audio tour will guide you through the basilica’s main attractions. Explore the intricate mosaics that adorn the interior walls.

  • Please note that the elevator will take you to the first level of the Dome. To reach the top you will need to climb around 300 steps. For this reason, this experience is not recommended for children under 7 years and adults over 75 years, or those who have claustrophobia, vertigo or difficulty walking
  • Entrance to the Vatican is subject to a strict dress code. Please make sure your shoulders and knees are covered. Low-cut or sleeveless tops or shorts are not allowed for men or women
  • Entry to the Vatican requires a security check. During high seasons, queues for security checks may take up to 150 minutes
  • At the time you have booked, redeem your voucher with a member of staff at the bar ‘Al san Michele’ (Borgo di Santo Spirito 17, 00193 Rome).
  • The experience includes two in-app digital audio tours: download these prior to arrival by scanning the QR code on your voucher.

Awesome Dome & Basilica Entry - The tour meets early and walks you through security. I had my elder mother and I was able to skip the dome trip and go straight to the Basilica. The rest of the team visited the dome. We went at 8am and security only took about 8 minutes. When we left the basilica at noon, the lines were super long. Great experience!

Recommended Vatican City Tour - The tour was accurate of what the event advertised. You start at the meeting point which was a small café were they give you a free breakfast, a juice box and a crossaint. Than the tour guide takes you through the security which is mandatory. They take you into St. Peter's Basilica where you get the choice whether to stay with the group or guide yourself through the Basilica. They recommend you going up to the Dome & the cupola if you do go up the stairs 2,204 you can take the elevator or the stairs. Otherwise, it's an amazing experience and I 100% recommend this experience. I would definitely return!

Found the place to... - Found the place to access ticket with help from taxi driver. Young friendley stafff led us in right direction with a lengthy queue awaiting entry. Use the lift to acces the roof level. Then climbed up the dome. You need to be quite fit. Photos from the top are amazing. Once in a lifetime thing to do. Pleased i did it.

Average experience - it was an average experience, audio guide was not user-friendly, difficult to correlate the chapters to artefacts, no proper instructions. initial touch point to collect the tickets is not very user-friendly, very large crowd. overall just a bit under par experience.

Had I known - There’s no good way to buy tickets for St. Peter’s Basilica online and I opted to use Vox. I arrived at the meeting spot a little early. It was easy to find. They basically just took us over and stood in line with us. I had the opportunity to use the audio guide but decided not to. Had I known that all I had to do was go get in line early, 7:30 am, and buy a ticket I would have.. but I didn’t know that and I’m happy with the service. Tickets are cheaper on your own. Be forewarned, if you skip the elevator to the dome , it’s 551 steps to the top with no place to turn around. So worth it though. The Basilica is beautiful and the view of Rome from there is amazing. Box (Headout) makes it easy.

Don’t. Don’t bother booking at all - The guide gave us an app QR code and told us to wait in line for multiple hours. After we got in finally, we were told to wait for another eternity until the guide bought the tickets on the day we had the trip booked (wouldn’t have had to reserve the tickets for this in advance, by just waiting in line that’s the same result.) Then the guide left us alone in the St. Petro dome and told us to do whatever… truly not recommendable to book. Especially because the Audio guide is terrible in all languages but English (my dad doesn’t speak it that’s why we booked it so he could have it in his language). And the entrance shows fees of 8 or 10€ per person depending on elevator usage or stairs. Means this „tour“ is way overpriced.

Don’t waste your money - Don’t waste your money. You still have to stand in line to enter and you could download a tour for free to your phone There’s no tour guide so all you get is an escort to St Peter’s

You can visit the dome for 8€... - Tickets to visit the dome can be purchased on site for €8 (€10 with the elevator) this option only serves to obtain an audio guide via a QR code and access to the basilica is obviously free.
