Highlights
  • Tarihi Asansor - Asansör is a historical building in İzmir’s Karataş quarter, within the boundaries of the metropolitan district of Konak. It was built in 1907 as a work of public service by a wealthy Jewish banker and trader of that period, Nesim Levi Bayraklıoğlu, in order to ease passage from the narrow coastline of Karataş to the hillside, the elevator within the building serving to carry people and goods through the steep cliff between the two parts of the quarter.
In time, the small street that led to the building also came to be known under the same name, Asansör Street (In the 1940s, one of the residents of the street was the singer Darío Moreno, who was to attain fame later.
It was recently restored and since then, became one of the landmarks of İzmir. The street was renamed Darío Moreno Street in memory of the singer.
Currently, top of Asansör is one of the most famous restaurants in Izmir.

  • Kemeralti Market - Kemeraltı is a historical market (bazaar) district of İzmir, Turkey. It remains one of the liveliest parts of İzmir. The bazaar formed originally around a long street. In medieval times, it was called Street of the Mevlevis, in reference to the presence of a “dergah” (a building designed for gatherings of a Sufi brotherhood). During the 17th Century, this street was filled in, which allowed the bazaar to extend. Today, the street, now called Anafartalar Street, winds to complete the circle of the shallow inner bay in a wide curve.

  • Smyrna Agora Ancient City - The Agora of Smyrna, alternatively known as the Agora of İzmir, is an ancient Roman agora located in Smyrna . Originally built by the Greeks in the 4th century BC, the agora was ruined by an earthquake in 178 AD. Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius ordered its reconstruction. Excavations started in 1933. In 2020, the Agora of Smyrna became a Tentative World Heritage Site as part of “The Historical Port City of Izmir.”
