Jaisalmer Fort - Golden Fort
Kothari’s Patwaon-Ki-Haveli - Often referred to as the golden city of India, Jaisalmer is a stunning city in Rajasthan. Among the many attractions that make this city famous, “Patwon Ki Haveli,” also known as the Mansion of Brocade Merchants, is at the top of the list. Patwon Ki Haveli is a collection of five grand havelis in Jaisalmer. Constructed in 1805 by Guman Chand Patwa, it took nearly 55 years to complete the first haveli. With a fascinating history, Patwon Ki Haveli is actually the first and largest haveli built in Jaisalmer. Historical accounts suggest that Patwa was a very wealthy man and a prominent trader of his era. Due to his wealth, he was able to construct a lavish palace.
Once the residence of the Patwa family, today the cluster of havelis is occupied by the Rajasthan government’s art and craft department. Its exquisite architecture, creative mirror work, intricate carvings, beautiful paintings, and its rich golden-yellow color make this cluster of havelis a favorite among tourists and locals alike.
Gadisar Lake - Situated in the Thar Desert and approximately 30 km from the Pakistan border, The Golden City of India, Jaisalmer, is home to numerous historical monuments today.
Among the most remarkable man-made features of Jaisalmer is the Gadisar Lake. Built amidst the arid region of Rajasthan, this lake resembles the beauty of an oasis.
Located on the outskirts of Jaisalmer, visiting Gadisar Lake is considered one of the best activities in Jaisalmer for watching the sunrise.
This artificial lake, constructed around the 12th-13th century, is now a popular spot for visitors. It is an ideal retreat for architecture lovers, culture enthusiasts, and peace seekers. For a relaxing experience in Jaisalmer, visit this place to enjoy the mesmerizing view of the sun setting in the evening.
Desert Safari
Kuldhara - Situated 17km west of Jaisalmer, Kuldhara has an intriguing story. Around 300 years ago, it was a prosperous village of Paliwal Brahmins under the state of Jaisalmer. According to legend, the malevolent eyes of Salim Singh, the powerful and corrupt prime minister of the state, fell on the daughter of the village head, and he desired to marry her by force. He threatened the village with severe consequences if they did not comply with his wish. Instead of submitting to the tyrant’s demand, the Paliwals held a council, and the people of 85 villages abandoned their ancestral homes and disappeared. But that was not all; before leaving, they cursed Kuldhara so that no one would ever be able to settle in their village again. To this day, the village remains desolate, left almost exactly as its inhabitants left it centuries ago.
However, people love the former story; after all, who doesn’t enjoy a touch of romance and mystery in their tales!
Khaba Fort - The Indian state of Rajasthan is renowned for its magnificent forts and palaces. Among its countless forts, Khaba Fort is particularly popular for being unique. Located near the town of Jaisalmer, Khaba Fort is situated in the Khaba village amidst the vast Thar Desert.
This ruined fort once housed a kingdom and was the epicenter of the Kuldhara village. Many tourists visit the site to explore its history and the numerous mysteries that still haunt the village. The abandoned houses near the fort are a popular spot for adventure seekers and myth-busters.
You’ll often see peacocks roaming around the fort with their wings spread wide. Although the Khaba Fort is largely in ruins, one can still find some beautiful walls and a few windows. Among the other remaining structures, there is also a small temple dedicated to Lord Shiva.

Bada Bagh - Bada Bagh, also known as Barabagh, is a garden complex located about six kilometers north of Jaisalmer in the Indian state of Rajasthan. Overlooking a mango grove, it features a set of royal chhatri cenotaphs constructed by the Maharajas of the Jaisalmer State in the 18th, 19th, and early 20th centuries CE.
Desert Culture Centre & Museum - A museum dedicated to Rajasthani heritage, art, and customs, featuring a nightly puppet show.
Amar Sagar Jain Temple - Situated next to the famous Amar Sagar Lake and south of Lodurva, there is a Jain Temple dedicated to Lord Parshwanath, known as Adeshwar Nath Jain temple. It was built by Patwa Bafna Himmat Ram in 1928. Amar Sagar was once a water reservoir (specifically an artificial lake) but is now mostly dry. It is located about 5-6 KM from the city limits and is considered one of the outskirts tourist locations. It is a beautiful spot for photographers, especially from October to February, with the blue sky providing a contrast to the golden walls of the temple. An entry fee is required. A symbolic structure of Rajasthan’s architecture and one of Jaisalmer’s main tourist attractions.
