Ratu Crater is the largest and youngest crater formed from an eruption of Mount Salak within the Cikuluwung Putri crater complex. Other craters in this complex include Paeh Crater and Hirup Crater, which was referred to as Paeh II Crater in 1951. Kawah Ratu, part of the Cikuluwung Putri crater complex, is situated on the west side of Mount Salak and is managed by the Directorate General of Forest Protection and Nature Conservation under the Ministry of Forestry, with oversight by the Gunung Halimun Salak National Park Office. The Cikuluwung Putri crater complex is primarily a solfatara field, emitting carbon dioxide (CO2) and water vapor (H2O). Solfatara fields are easily identifiable by the distinct smell of sulfur oxide gases in the air. At high concentrations, these emissions, known as sulfur, can be hazardous to both animals and humans.
