It was a trading hub for the Portuguese and the Hindu Kingdom of Pajajaran in the early 16th century and later came under Portuguese and Dutch control. Today, Sunda Kelapa is a fisherman’s wharf and inter-island port, with picturesque Bugis schooners from South Sulawesi. Despite its age, the harbor remains vital for sailing vessels from across Indonesia. Visitors can explore the port, hire a canoe, and visit the nearby old fish market, which is best seen early in the morning.
