Morning Adventures in Jambiani
As the sun rises over the Indian Ocean, Jambiani awakens to the rhythm of village life. On November 9th, the day begins with a gentle rain, a perfect prelude to a morning of cultural immersion. The Village Tour offers a unique opportunity to explore the heart of Jambiani. Starting at 9:00 AM, this tour takes you through the vibrant streets where the scent of spices fills the air. You’ll visit a women’s pottery and handicrafts group, witness the intricate process of seaweed farming, and learn about traditional medicine from a local herbs doctor. The tour concludes with a delightful lunch at a local restaurant, where you’ll savor authentic Zanzibari cuisine, rich with spices and flavors that tell the story of the island’s diverse cultural tapestry.
“We booked the Jambiani Village Tour via Colours of Zanzibar. Communication was very clear and they respond very fast. The tour was very well managed and we had a chance to see weed farming, experience village life, visiting primary school and hospital and had lunch in host family. Our guide was very good and could give us deep information. In some places they were asking for tips or little contribution, but not pushy. They asked to write down the comment and if you feels like you could leave tip. In the e-mail we received from Colours of Zanzibar was written that everything is included in the price even the tips. So it is up to you how you feel about tips. But people were not pushy in that. Highly recommend this tour and we would definitely do it again.” - Reviewed on 2019-09-27

The Private Village Tour is a perfect choice for those seeking a more personalized experience. Available from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, this tour allows you to stroll along the village roads, exploring the architectural evolution of the dwellings and engaging with the locals. You’ll have the chance to try your hand at making coconut milk and learn the art of rope-making from coconut fiber. The tour also includes a visit to a seaweed farm, where you’ll discover the significance of this industry to the local economy and the inspiring role of women in its success.
“Excellent Swahili cultural tour. It was really interesting and fun to learn about different Swahili cultures from the locals. The tour was well organized and felt respectful to the locals and their space. I met with a traditional healer, weaver and a lovely Swahili woman that showed me how to get coconut milk from a coconut! I highly recommend this trip to anyone that’s looking for an opportunity to genuinely interact with locals in Jambiani.” - Reviewed on 2023-09-11
