- Fukuoka Prefecture - [DAY-1] 08:00 < Pick Up > Your hotel or HAKATA Station, HAKATA Port, KOKURA Station, KITA-KYUSHU Airport in Fukuoka. - Mojiko Retro - [DAY-1] 9:30-10:15 < guided walk > Mojiko Retro Area, 9 Minatomachi, Moji Ward, Kitakyushu, Fukuoka. The Port of Moji (Mojiko) is an international trade port established in 1889, located at the northern tip of Kyushu. Its role as a transport hub led to the construction of many Western-style buildings for shipping companies and trading firms. The Mojiko Retro district is a restored version of the area around the port from historical times. Various buildings have been preserved and are open to visitors, including the iconic Mojiko Station, the former Moji Mitsui Club where Einstein stayed, and the former Kyushu Railway Headquarters (now the Kyushu Railway History Museum). Visitors can experience the ambiance of Japan from the late 19th to early 20th centuries here.
- The Site of Dannoura Battlefield - [DAY-1] 10:30-10:45 < historic sites > Dannoura Battlefield, 21 Mimosusogawa-cho, Shimonoseki, Yamaguchi. This site marks the location of the Battle of Dan-no-ura, the final conflict between the Heike and Genji clans in 1185. The Heike (Taira clan) were defeated by the Genji, leading to the demise of the Heike family and the death of Emperor Antoku, who drowned himself at the age of 8 along with his grandmother Nii-no-ama. The Genji family established the buke society, which lasted until the Edo period, after this battle. Statues of Minamoto no Yoshitsune (Genji) and Taira no Tomomori (Heike) stand with the handprints of famous actor Takizawa Hideaki and actress Nakagoshi Noriko, who portrayed characters in a drama about the Battle of Gempei, in Mimosusogawa Park in front of the battlefield ruins.

This was the case with Fukutoku Inari Shrine. While driving up the coast of Yamaguchi from Shimonoseki to visit Tsunoshima Bridge and Motonosumi Inari Shrine, this gem was spotted on a clifftop. A detour was made, and it was well worth the visit!
- Michi-no-Eki Kitaurakaido Hohoku - [DAY-1] 12:15-13:00 < lunch 1 > Wakuwaku-tei, 314-1 Hohokucho Kandakami, Shimonoseki, Yamaguchi. At “Michinoeki Kitaura Kaido Houhoku,” located by the sea in Houhoku-cho in Shimonoseki, Yamaguchi Prefecture, fresh vegetables and seafood from local farmers and fishermen are offered. There is also an attached restaurant where you can enjoy dishes made with fresh fish from Kitaura while watching the sea of Houhoku. This station is easily accessible from surrounding tourist areas, and it takes approximately 10 minutes by car and 13 minutes by bus to reach the stunning Tsunoshima Ohashi Bridge with its cobalt blue sea and white structure. Tsunoshima is an island with a population of 900, located in the northwest of Yamaguchi Prefecture, emerging from the Sea of Japan. The beautiful scenery here resembles southern beaches more than the Sea of Japan. The Great Tsunoshima Bridge is one of the longest (1,780 m) toll-free bridges in Japan. It is also a popular location featured in many movies and TV shows.
- Motonosumi Inari Shrine - [DAY-1] 14:15-15:00 < 100 Torii Gates > Motonosumi Inari Shrine, 498 Yuyatsuo, Nagato, Yamaguchi *close:-16:00. Motonosumi Shrine was selected by CNN Travel as one of the “31 Most Beautiful Places in Japan.” The shrine’s unique location creates a striking contrast between the red gates and the cobalt blue waves below. This shrine was built to honor a white fox spirit, to whom visitors prayed for financial success, fishing success, and safety at sea. Today, the fox god receives a wide variety of wishes, including good fortune, wealth, childbearing, marriage, traffic safety, and academic success.

Omijima Island, off the coast of Yamaguchi, is at the center of Kita-Nagato Quasi-National Park. The island features numerous striking rock formations, cliffs, and caves, collectively known as the “Maritime Alps.” One of the best ways to view these formations is by boat. Sightseeing boats depart from the Omijima Kanko Kisen boat pier in Nagato City. Routes depend on the weather and tides, and take around 50 to 80 minutes.

- Akiyoshidai Karst Observatory - [DAY-2] 10:30-11:00 < National Park > Akiyoshidai, 11237-862 Shuhocho Akiyoshi, Mine, Yamaguchi. Akiyoshidai is the largest karst plateau in Japan, located in the middle and eastern part of Mine City. It was designated a National Monument (Akiyoshidai Quasi-National Park) in 1955 and a special natural monument in 1964. The limestone that forms the magnificent landscape of Akiyoshidai originated about 350 million years ago in the southern sea as a coral reef, and over the years has formed the karst plateau seen today.
- Akiyoshidai Kurotani Information Center - [DAY-2] 11:15-12:00 < adventure! > Akiyoshido Cave [KUROTANI] Entrance, 1237-739 Shuhocho Akiyoshi, Mine, Yamaguchi. Entrance fee ¥1300 (≈10 USD)/adult. The cave runs from north to south. You can enter through the entrance and exit on the other side “one way.” The bus will drop you off at the entrance and wait for you at the exit. Akiyoshido is one of the largest limestone caves in Japan, located at the southern foot of the Akiyoshidai Quasi-National Park, 100 meters underground. This pagoda was commissioned by Ouchi Morimi, one of the heads of the Ouchi clan that ruled Yamaguchi from the 14th to 16th centuries. Morimi had the pagoda built as a memorial to his older brother Ouchi Yoshihiro, who died leading a revolt against the central government in 1399. The pagoda was completed in 1442 and is celebrated as the most outstanding structure surviving from the middle of the Muromachi period, which ran from approximately 1336 to 1573. It is designated a national treasure. The pagoda is 31 meters tall, or about 102 feet. Its roofs are made of multiple layers of cypress bark held in place with bamboo nails. Each story is progressively narrower, contributing to the structure’s balanced appearance.

The five-arched, wooden Kintai Bridge is constructed of cypress, chestnut, zelkova, pine, cypress, and oak. It spans the Nishiki River in Iwakuni City, Yamaguchi Prefecture. The bridge’s appearance changes significantly depending on the season and time of day, attracting photographers and artists such as Hokusai. Cross the bridge and enter Kikko Park, which evokes the homes where samurai families once lived.
