Highlights
  • Mount Fuji - Enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of Mount Fuji at several places during this day, along with many other surprises.
  • Hakone Turnpike Daikanyama Parking lot - We will begin the trip with one if not the most scenic road of the Fuji/Hakone region. The road itself has many panoramas and from the top observatory, there is an incredible view of all the valley, Hakone, and Fuji. Even in case of rain, it is so foggy and green that it is an incredible atmosphere.
  • Hakone Shrine - The Hakone Shrine is a Japanese Shinto shrine on the shores of Lake Ashii. It was founded in 757 and contains a Tori (red gate), several shrines and buildings, some souvenir shops and a museum. It is one of the most beautiful shrines in the region, lost in nature.
  • Lake Ashinoko - We will then reach Lake Ashi, where we will stop at several famous Torii Gates (traditional Japanese gates most commonly found at the entrance of or within a Shinto shrine) and Shrines.
  • Tenzan Tohji-kyo - After the highway trip, scenic road, shrine and lake visit, it will be time to eat, and of course, relax. We will slowly make our way to some of the most beautiful onsen that Kanto has to offer (several choices, depending of your mood and desires). There we will be able to eat local specialities, relax in the thermal water, and even have a massage. Napping next to the water in the relaxation room is also possible, and recommended.
  • Lake Ashinoko Sky Line - After Lunch, if time permits, we will pass by a second iconic road of the Fuji/Hakone region. It will allow us to have an even closer view on Fuji, on Lake Ashinoko, and even the sea! There are 4 breathtaking panorama along the road and we will stop at each of them.
  • The Hakone Open-Air Museum - After lunch, and relaxation at the onsen, it will be time to take the road again and go to the open-air museum. It holds collections of artworks by Picasso, Henry Moore, Taro Okamoto, Yasuo Mizui, Churyo Sato, Susumu ShingÅ«, and many others, featuring over a thousand sculptures exhibited within 70,000 square meters of green garden. It is both mesmerizing and relaxing, for adults and children alike.
  • Pola Museum of Art - If the weather isn’t kind, or if you are quick, or interested by both, we will go to Pola Museum, which is indoor. The museum is nestled in a forest of beech trees and hidden in the wooded mountains of Hakone. The award-winning modern architecture blends finds a beautiful contrast and harmony with the surrounding nature. The museum exhibits a world-class collection of Western and Japanese paintings, ceramics, and cosmetic utensils, with a focus on impressionist paintings.

Additional Information

Experience Japan like a local, far from the crowded and usually frequented places. Focus on relaxation and well-being without neglecting scenery and culture. We will pick you up from your hotel and drive you to Hakone, one of Japan’s most beautiful hot-spring towns. From there we will take scenic roads only, bringing you to magnificent panoramas of Mt Fuji, Hakone, the Sea of Japan, lakes, and temples.

Once the hunger settles in, we will reach a special place where you will be able to experience delicious authentic Japanese cuisine (no bento box on a plastic table, except if you want to, of course) and indulge in some of the region’s best onsen.

After this relaxing time, we will once again take the road and finish our day at an incredible nearby museum, open air with a beautiful garden if the weather permits, or mesmerizing architecture if it rains.

As this is a private tour (with a private guide), you can tailor every step and detail to your preferences, or leave it up to us.

Unique cultural experience- not your usual Mt Fufi tourist trap! - This was a truly unique experience! Instead of joining the hordes of tourists on the "traditional" Mt Fuji tour, we had the opportunity to photograph the mountain, visit a Shinto temple and view the gorgeous Hakone region where the Japanese actuall vacation! The highlight was the opportunity to spend the afternoon in an Onsen! This included a traditional lunch, dip in the hot springs, and a total body massage therapy (the latter was a fraction of the cost in the USA!). Highly enjoyable way to spend one of our last days in Japan and appreciated by both adults and teenagers. We would recommend to all travelers as a truly authentic and relaxing cultural experience! Elie was a magnificent guide- Highly recommended!

Amazing tour! Highly recommend. - This is the best tour I have ever been on. I went with my 83 year old father and my 2 kids. Elie was amazing. If you are going to take a tour to Mt Fuji - this should be it! Elie shows you all the best spots (and they are not the touristy ones). If I come back to Japan I will be booking in another tour with Elie. Thanks Elie! The kids say thanks too!

Perfect - If you're planning a trip to Japan and just typed "Mount Fuji" into the search box, you can stop searching now. You've found your tour. I initially had some reservations about going to a traditional hot spring, but our guide made it as close to effortless as it could have been. I'm so glad I decided to book this tour, because I would have missed out on the biggest highlight of my entire trip if I hadn't. It was foggy on the day I booked, so I unfortunately did not get to see Mt. Fuji, but this is still the easiest 5 stars I've ever given out. Our guide was communicative before and during the trip. He showed up on time and picked up our group right in front of our hotel. He had the kind of knowledge of the area that only comes from first-hand experience, and he was more than willing to explain anything we asked him about. The stops we visited were all awesome, and they combined some great scenic overlooks with culturally immersive experiences. The only thing he could have done better would be if he had personally reached up and parted the clouds above Mt. Fuji for us.

Great Excursion - We were a little disappointed that Mount Fuji was covered by the clouds by the time we went up to the viewing site, but we still had a great time. Elie was wonderful, he even provided a list of good restaurants for us to try while we were in Tokyo.

Onsen Delights - The reason this tour was so great came down to the incredible attitude and character of my guide Elie. Do do do request him. Elie was so fun to be with as he had a great balance of informative facts and comedic injections that I was learning and laughing most of the day. The drive to Hakone is about 1.5 hours and the scenic backroads are spectacular even if you aren’t there at peak cherry blossom season! The Temples and vistas are tingling and I enjoyed them all. However the real treat begins at the arrival to the Hakone Onsen! What an amazing experience. Note - Japan culture is nude when it comes to the baths, so know that going in. But once you head to the either Women or Men’s areas that pretty much becomes redundant and you just act like a local and carry on. Beware - do not drop of droop you towel (you will need to bring two or pay to rent them - one small hand one large body towel are required.) At the Onsen, I recommend the following order. 1. Arrive 2. Head to the Restaurant and put you name on the Shabu Shabu list. The food is to die for. 3. Before you sit down, go to the massage area located in the bottom floor courtyard, and book a 30 or 60 minute Japanese massage. You will thank me later. 4. Eat you meal. 5. Take a short nap in the rest rooms. Lying down on the floor is very calming next to the babbling brook. 6. After a short twenty minute rest, head to the baths and take in the Onsen healing wells. You will sleep like a baby that night. I got there at around 12pm and left at around 4pm. Which was plenty of time to execute the above schedule - and believe me when I tell you that this order of play is bonafide the best. After that, Elie picked me up and we drove back to Tokyo. It is worth considering a two night stay in Hakone if time permits as there is more to enjoy for sure.
