Discovering Jeju: A Day of Natural Beauty and Cultural Richness
Drawn by the allure of Jeju Island’s natural beauty and cultural richness, I embarked on a tour to explore its UNESCO World Heritage sites and more. Join me as I recount a day filled with breathtaking landscapes and serene moments.
A Journey Through Jeju’s Natural Wonders
As I embarked on the Jeju Island Tour, I was filled with anticipation. Jeju Island, often referred to as the “Hawaii of Korea,” promised a day of exploration through its UNESCO World Heritage sites and more. Our first stop was Hallasan National Park, where the 1100 Highland awaited us. The vast wetland, registered as a Ramsar site, was a sight to behold. Walking across the wetland, I felt the energy of Mt. Halla enveloping me. The light hike was invigorating, offering a refreshing start to the day. The air was crisp, and the views were nothing short of spectacular. It was a reminder of the profound connection between nature and culture that Jeju embodies.
Tea Traditions and Coastal Cliffs
Our journey continued to the O’sulloc Tea Museum, a serene haven for tea enthusiasts. Surrounded by lush green tea fields, I was transported to a world of tranquility. Engaging in tea tastings, I savored the diverse flavors and witnessed the intricate tea-making process. The museum was not just about tea; it was a celebration of Jeju’s rich tea heritage. As we moved on to the Daepo Haean Jusangjeolli Cliff, the breathtaking coastal cliffs left me in awe. The natural beauty of these majestic cliffs, with heights ranging from 20 to 30 meters, created a mesmerizing panorama against the backdrop of the sea. It was a moment of reflection, standing on the edge of the world, feeling the power of the ocean.
Waterfalls and Forests of Legends
The final leg of our tour took us to Cheonjeyeon Falls, known as the “Pond of the Gods.” The waterfall, formed by the Jungmun River, was a mystical sight. According to legend, celestial maidens would descend at night to bathe here. The cascading waters and the surrounding lush greenery created a serene atmosphere, perfect for contemplation. Our journey concluded at Gotjawal Provincial Park, a unique ecosystem formed by irregular rocky terrain and diverse vegetation. Walking through the forest, I marveled at the coexistence of various plants and animals. It was a fitting end to a day filled with natural beauty and cultural richness, a testament to Jeju’s unique charm.
