Highlights
  • Jing’an Temple - Located on West Nanjing Road in Shanghai, Jingan Temple, also known as the “Temple of Peace and Tranquility”, is a historic Buddhist temple with a lineage stretching back over 700 years. It should not be mistaken for the Temple of the Jade Buddha; they are distinct entities. The origins of this venerable temple trace back to AD 247.

The temple’s structure primarily consists of three main halls designed in the Southern architectural style, each accompanied by its own courtyard. These halls were established during the latest reconstruction in 1880 and include the Hall of Heavenly Kings, Hall of the Three Saints, and Hall of Virtuous Works. Adjacent to the main hall on the east side is the Guanyin Hall, which houses a 6.2-meter tall camphor wood statue of the goddess, weighing 5 metric tons and perched atop a lotus-shaped pedestal. Opposite the Guanyin Hall lies the Jade Buddha Hall, home to a 3.8-meter tall jade Buddha statue, reputed to be the largest seated jade Buddha in the nation.
