JINKA to MURSI VILLAGE & back to TURMI
Mursi Village - After an early breakfast, transfer by road to Mursi village through Mago National Park, offering a perfect opportunity to see wildlife en route. The Mursi people are known for piercing and extending their lower lips to insert circular clay plates. The Mursi women are renowned for their lip plates, and the community still practices rituals, rites of passage, and ceremonies passed down through generations. The most important figures for the Mursi are the Komoru (priest) and the Ngerre (healer).
Turmi - After lunch at the lodge, drive to Turmi. Travel across the countryside, observing the changing landscape and local villages along the way. The afternoon is at leisure.
TURMI & OMORATE
Omo National Park and River - Depart early in the morning for Omorate, an hour’s drive away, followed by a river crossing of the Omo River in traditional dug-out canoes to visit the Dassenech people. The Dassenech are predominantly agro-pastoralists who supplement their income from livestock production with crop cultivation on the flooded banks of the Omo River and fishing. After the visit, return to the lodge for lunch.
TURMI to KONSO & ARBAMINCH
Konso - After an early breakfast, depart at 7:00 AM for the city of Arbaminch by road. En route, visit one of the many walled villages of the Konso people. The Konso landscape is a UNESCO site located in a dry, hilly environment at the edge of the Rift Valley in southern Ethiopia. This relatively isolated area has remained largely unchanged for at least 400 years. The people live in closely-packed communities of wood-and-mud thatched dwellings and travel out to tend their fields daily.
Chamo Lake - Afternoon activity includes a boat trip on Lake Chamo, part of the Nech Sar National Park, located between the rift valley lakes of Chamo and Abaya. Nech Sar National Park is one of the most visited safari parks in Ethiopia. After observing the abundant wildlife in the lake, transfer to Paradise Lodge for check-in and dinner.
ARBAMINCH
Arba Minch Town - Spend the morning at leisure at the lodge or take a walk around the 40 springs in the immediate area.
Dorze Village - In the afternoon, depart from Arba Minch to visit the village of the Dorze people, known for their intricately woven bamboo huts and traditional clothes. Weaving is the main profession for many Dorze, and their colorful textiles are considered the best in Ethiopia. The Dorze weaving skills are also displayed in their beehive-shaped huts that resemble the face of an elephant. Immerse yourself in their culture, including the making of Kotcho, a pizza-like bread made from False Banana, and enjoy cultural dances. Enjoy the sunset on the return drive to Arba Minch, as Dorze is located on a commanding hill overlooking the two lakes, Abaya and Chamo.
