Additional Information

This journey provides an authentic and unique opportunity to explore the most renowned tribes of the Omo Valley.

The southern region of Ethiopia is home to a diverse array of ethnic groups, with this locale being the site where early human remains were first discovered. These ancient tribes have stayed in the valleys even as human migration led to the colonization of the entire earth. The linguistic diversity is remarkable, with 45 different languages spoken among tribes such as the Borena and Mursi, as well as the less populous Karo and Dassanech (or Galeb) tribes. These communities have a wide range of intriguing cultural customs, one of which is their distinctive way of constructing houses. The Sidama, Gurage, and Dorze people, for example, use bamboo to create dome-like abodes that are well-adapted to their surroundings and possess remarkable durability.

Known for elaborate cultural ceremonies, the Karo tribe resides by the Lower Omo River, with members distinguished by their ornate body painting with white chalk and impressive headgear.

unforgettable travel experience - Ethiopia was almost an unknown country for me, so two weeks of traveling with the local agency Access Eco Trekking Tours has given me a unique opportunity to sink into the rich Ethiopian history, visit amazing archaeological places and cultural monuments (many of which are UNESCO World Heritage), feel different natural landscapes from Danakil Depression to the Simien Mountains, taste excellent food, enjoy music, dance ... and meet heartful people! I would like to thank Mr. Kanu and all the guides and drivers who have contributed to my unforgettable travel experience as they shared knowledge about their country, made me feel safe and gave me the opportunity for a joyful and funny trip with some special challenges such as climbing to the church in the mountain or feeding wild hyenas. I would highly recommend!
