Soweto - Soweto represents the New South Africa, balancing between old squatter hardships and new prosperity, squalor, and a vibrant lifestyle. It’s a lively city that still bears the scars of Apartheid but also showcases the possibilities in the New South Africa. This tour is innovative and diverse, offering customized experiences that allow you to connect with South Africa.
Apartheid Museum - The Apartheid Museum illustrates the rise and fall of apartheid, reminding visitors of the historic and traumatic events leading up to South Africa’s first democratic elections in 1994. It honors those who risked and lost their lives in the struggle for freedom and equality. The museum also serves as a place of healing, with gardens offering a tranquil space for reflection. The 22 exhibition areas take visitors on an emotional journey from darkness to light and hope. The exhibits highlight the suffering under apartheid, the struggle to overthrow the oppressive regime, and the incredible resilience and strength of those who fought for freedom and equality in South Africa.
Constitution Hill Human Rights Precinct - Constitution Hill is both a museum and the site of the notorious Old Fort prison, including Number 4 prison, the Women’s Gaol, and the home of the Constitutional Court of South Africa. It uniquely tells the story of South Africa’s turbulent past and its extraordinary transition to democracy, recognizing both celebrated and unsung heroes. The mood will be lifted with a visit to the Neighbourhood Market, housed in a modernist building with a spectacular 15-story wall mural by Eduardo Villa. The market is a source for fresh foods and specialty goods and a meeting point to enjoy a vibrant community, exchange ideas, and be inspired by Johannesburg’s energy.
