Better than Expected! - We enjoyed ourselves immensely! The foods, the sights and the conversations were wonderful. There were only four of us on the tour-my wife and I, along with a mother and daughter who were traveling separately from us. We ate delicious foods from Nigeria, Ethiopia, Zimbabwe and South Africa. Our guide was awesome, making changes on the go, such as the last restaurant which was scheduled to be Egyptian food was very loud and he was able to find us a great South African restaurant in minutes. He was even able to procure some wine for us. We loved every part of the tour.

Great experience - M the driver was great. He communicated with us on what time he would be at our hotel and what he was driving. Joe our guide was very good at explaining the different areas we walked through. The food and beer was great and different. I would recommend to anyone looking to see new cultures.

10/10 highly recommend - I had an unforgettable experience on this tour! Even though I was the only participant due to a last-minute cancellation, it turned into a private tour, and it couldn't have been better. I was running late, but the company was incredibly accommodating, which I greatly appreciated. My guide, Joe, was exceptional—his deep knowledge of the history and culture of the areas we visited made every moment fascinating. He also shared insights from his life in South Africa, adding a personal touch that I loved. Exploring different neighborhoods, admiring the local art, and learning about the origins of each area was truly enriching. The food stops were fantastic—every meal was delicious, with generous portions that will definitely satisfy your appetite. Just be sure to start the tour on an empty stomach! My only wish was for a dessert stop to complete the experience. Overall, I highly recommend this tour to anyone looking to dive deep into the local culture and history. It’s an experience you won’t want to miss!

Walking tour of street art, with great food - We thought this would be a food tour so I am writing this review to clarify others expectations. I think that a food tour should be all about food, including learning about the ingredients or food culture. This was not what we experienced, if a walking art tour with food stops is your jam, you might love this. Part 1. Stopping at various shops to encourage you to buy from local artists Part 2. Walking around Maboneng to see the many beautiful murals. Part 3. Stopping at “hole in the wall” restaurants to eat where locals eat. Excellent food. We stopped at three restaurants: Nigerian, Ethiopian, and Egyptian (but ate Zulu food). Nkosi, our guide, is Zulu. We enjoyed learning about that culture and my daughter loved the language lesson as he taught her how to say word with the “clicks”. I was disappointed that when I asked about food, ingredients or recipes, I was told to google. I think this was a great experience but should be described differently on trip advisor.

Good but not as advertised. - The three food stops were fabulous. Good variety of cultures represented. The tour of Maboneng, although interesting, focused more on the art culture and less on the food influence. We didn’t eat our first food until 45 minutes into the tour and really thought we were on the wrong tour. Guide was knowledgeable.

Marginal - Food in Johannesburg is often high quality and relatively inexpensive. This was neither. Food was mediocre at best. Mostly leftovers w no fresh options. Beer wasn’t easily offered and a group of four shared two different bottles in a plastic glass. The tour itself was interesting in a converted industrial area. “Night life” i suppose. The street art was good and worth a visit. Not a place i would visit without a local. Pick up okay with well marked car and driver.

We’ll Never Do That Again! - 1. We weren’t notified that driver would pick us up 30 minutes before the tour start time! 2. Upon arrival to tour office, we were immediately accosted and pressured to buy local crafts displayed in the space. 3. Booking specifically states that Alcoholic Beverages are excluded - thus inferring that non-alcoholic beverages are included. At our first tasting when we requested water, guide said NO beverages were included and we had to go to a shop next door to buy our own water! 3. Guide told us we would experience 4 tastings. At the 3rd tasting, the food wasn’t ready (power failure), so we moved on to the fourth tasting. At tour conclusion, guide (who was nice and seemed knowledgeable), offered no apologies, compensation, or substitution for only having 3 vice 4 tastings, and purchasing our own water. 4. We understand that customs may be to eat food using only hands. Suggest that utensils be offered to guests who may be uncomfortable doing so in a group setting, especially after COVID. Alternatively, provide antiseptic wipes and cleansers. 5. We have enjoyed numerous food tours in Asia, Europe, and North America. Every tasting location on tours offers sampling of several foods. This tour provided only one dish at each of the 3 locations! This was the worst food tour we have ever been on! In terms of value for the money - It was definitely NOT worth the $134!
