Additional Information

Soweto, arguably South Africa’s hippest township, promises an experience that can truly transform one’s perspective. Since the 1950s, Soweto has been at the heart of political movements striving to dismantle apartheid, and in 1955 it was the stage for the adoption of the Freedom Charter by 3,000 individuals - a document that has since influenced the creation of the South African Constitution.

Experience the urban landscape where the likes of Mandela resided and where Mahatma Gandhi embarked on his legal journey.

Gain valuable insights about two of the most iconic fighters for freedom from the 20th century, whose legal and political journeys unfolded in this very city. Walk the path once trodden by Mahatma Gandhi, founder of the Passive Resistance (Satyagraha) Movement, and Nelson Mandela, who initiated the Defiance Campaign.

Great Experience - Highly recommend this tour. It is very informative and provides a different perspective. We added the walking tour and enjoyed it tremendously. Our guide Mpho-p was "funtastic" and showed us areas we would not have seen otherwise.

Great Tour of Soweto by Guide DT - On 22 July our family of 4 did the Soweto Township Tour (part of combination ticket with hop on hop off bus). Our guide DT did a great job explaining things along the way and in particular at the Hector Pietersen monument and at Nelson Mandela's house he provide us with a lot of interesting information. He really made our tour of Soweto worth the experience!
