The water’s extreme salinity is due to the high evaporation rate, not its below-sea-level location. Dead Sea salts and minerals have been valued for their skin-enhancing properties, though they can be quite intense. While floating in the sea, you might discover unnoticed cuts (avoid shaving beforehand), and if water enters your eyes, expect a few moments of discomfort. “Swimming” might be misleading – “bobbing” is more accurate, as the buoyancy in the Dead Sea makes it challenging to swim.
