Highlights
  • Wadi al-Mujib - The Wadi Mujib, also known as Arnon Stream, is a river in Jordan. The river empties into the Dead Sea circa 420 meters below sea level. In ancient times, the river served as the northern boundary of the kingdom of Moab. Today, the Wadi Mujib is fed by seven tributaries
  • Dead Sea Region - It would be a travesty to come to Jordan and miss the Dead Sea. At 400m below sea level, this extraordinary body of intense blue water, polished smooth like oiled skin on a windless day in winter or ruffled into salty whitecaps during the summer winds, lies at the lowest point on earth. The extreme salinity of the water has nothing to do with the Dead Sea being below sea level; rather it comes about because of the high evaporation rate.
Dead Sea salts and minerals have long been exploited for their skin-friendly properties – although they don’t always feel that friendly. While swimming in the sea, you’ll discover cuts you never knew you had (don’t shave before visiting), and if any water gets in your eyes, be prepared for a few minutes of agony. In fact, ‘swimming’ is probably a misnomer – bobbing is nearer the mark as the buoyancy experienced in the Dead Sea makes it difficult to move through the water.
  • Petra - Wadi Musa - This magnificent UNESCO-listed heritage site is one of Jordan’s greatest treasures. First, walk through a beautiful narrow pathway, known as Al-Siq which serves as the main entrance to the main city of Petra. Then, lay your eyes on the Al-Khazneh Treasury which is carved deep into the rocks on one side of the mountain and is intricately decorated with Corinthian capitals, friezes, and figures. After lunch in Petra, set off to see other monuments such as the Monastery, the Altar of Sacrifice, the Street of Facades, the Royal Tombs, and the Roman Theatre.
On your way back, explore the Roman Theater, a large open-air amphitheater carved into the hillside. Other interesting sights include the Royal Tombs, the Street of Facades, and the High Place of Sacrifice.
