An experienced miner will demonstrate hard rock mining and acquaint you with the mining lifestyle. Back at the mill our guide will explain why this mill was unique compared to others. You will see the John Peterson Stamp mill in operation and you’ll try your own hand at panning for gold and garnets. Pay dirt is guaranteed and you keep what you find! Wander through our displays and see the first steam engine brought to Alaska. Be sure to check out the General Store for that special something for that special someone.

Nuggets of Information and Gold mine of fun! - Going into the mine and hearing about it from a real miner was fantastic. We also learned a lot about mining in an informative and interesting talk. Finished it off with panning for real gold! It was all lots of fun and great memories!

We had a blast - We had a blast on the gold mining tour!! Our guide was phenomenal and explained so much. Everyone was very knowledgeable, patient, and most of all, friendly.

Thoroughly enjoyed - This was a GREAT experience. Very courteous and informative staff. Learned a lot of history about Juneau and how gold mining was an integral part of how it became what it is. Gold panning was a fun experience also! We highly recommend this excursion.

Very unique experience! 3 miles from town. Friendly staff and very beautiful location on the hillside! - Great and unique experience. Lots of information. I would suggest that the tour speakers get a loud speaker for when they have a larger group is the only suggestion. Myself and wife and 11 year old daughter all enjoyed the excursion and felt comfortable , safe and had a healthy mix of information, history, comic relief and q&a moments. I appreciated the scenery and uniqueness of the trip. Oh yea, we all came home with GOLD!

Great Gold Mine Overview - This tour was a great overview of the workings of a gold mine. The bus driver was a local and started the tour with lots of information as we drove to the mine. Once outfitted with our hardhats we met the mine guide. He had over 35 years of mining experience and was very colorful. The next guide provided information about the original mine location and then it was time to try our hands at panning for gold. Glad we took this tour. Everyone was friendly and enthusiastic. Lots of fun.

Outstanding gold mining tiur - I learned so much about the hard rock mining process both historical and currrent. The guides were personable, clear and informative. There was ample time to do the gold panning which was a blast. Recommend for all ages

Great Mine Tour - Mine tour was a great way to get to actually go into an old mine. Tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and was very interesting.

Fun time learning about mining - My husband went on a rainy day and had more fun than we expected. The staff were knowledgeable and helpful. It was an overall great excursion and I recommend it.
