Tour review - What a fantastic day, crossed two countries in one morning…. NOTE to self and others DONT forget your passport to cross borders. Moving experience at Hill of Crosses, beautiful Palace and castle. Our tour guide Normunds was fantastic, what a knowledgeable man, great company and I would highly recommend him. He took us to a lovely Taverna for lunch. Thanks for such a great experience Normands. If you ever come to the UK I’ll show you our countryside. 😊

'Must Do' Trip If In Latvia! - We are seasoned travellers and booked this wonderful trip via Normund's website. It's a small family owned business with some really interesting excursions in Latvia and the neighbouring Baltic countries. Normund's collected us from our hotel lobby - he was early and his car luxurious as well as very comfortable. Normunds is a fantastic guide, excellent driver and it was an absolute pleasure to spend the day with him. He is super knowledgeable, friendly and funny. The trip itself fulfilled all our expectations and we learnt lots about Latvia. The Hill of Crosses (actually, just across the border in Lithuania) is staggering - a spectacular sight and thought provoking at the same time. We enjoyed leaving our own cross and a message of hope. Rundale Palace is a baroque masterpiece and in amazing condition. Incredibly, we were the only visitors and had the whole place to ourselves! Bauska Castle was similarly deserted and we had great fun wandering around the rooms and walkways. It's positioned on a picturesque spit of land with great views and would be an excellent place to explore with kids. Finally, we enjoyed a tasty meal of traditional Latvian fare and good dinner conversation in a lovely little restaurant in the town of Bauska itself. Normunds was also kind enough to give us lots of information on things to do in Riga which included The Corner House, Latvian Academy of Sciences Observation Deck and Jurmala all of which we visited over the next couple of days. Hill of Crosses, Rundale Palace & Bauska Castle - From the moment we were collected from our hotel to the time of return, personal tour of the Hill of Crosses, Rundale Palace and the Bauska Castle with our guide Normunds Heincis was fantastic. Normunds runs a local family-oriented tour operation during summer and winter months. He is well versed in the English language and has a great sense of humour that will keep you entertained. We especially liked this tour because is was tailored to our small family and allowed us ample time to sightsee at our convenience. The Hill of Crosses was a testament to the human faith and belief in the goodness of humanity. Touring the Rundale Palace was an eye opener as to how wealthy individuals such as dukes and duchesses of nobility lived extravagantly. The palace was specifically built as a summer home for nobles to relax and host lavish parties. In Bauska, the 15th Century castle emulated a life of medieval royalty, idealisms of fashion and methods of protection such as the massive moats and ammunition that still line the exterior walls of the moats.
