Exceptional Guide with Local Expertise and Extra Care! - Vega, our guide, was absolutely fantastic! He was incredibly flexible and shared a wealth of knowledge about the temples and the volcano 🌋, making the experience truly enriching. Not only that, but he went above and beyond by helping us find a train for the next day 🚆 and offering great recommendations for how to spend our evening in Jogja 🌙. Three sites that you must see when you are based in Jogjakarta. - Borobudur climb is tightly managed by the authorities at the site. You may get lucky and get a good local guide at Borobudur with a strong command of English (or not).
Merapi was interesting, but if you thought you would be looking into a volcanic caldera, well that's not what this volcano is about. You look at it from about 2 km away and from below. You do see the puffs of smoke coming out of course. The viewing area is a bit dusty, to be expected of course, and a line of local shops hoping to get some tourist money.
Prambanan is a highlight, particularly if you get there for sunset. In some ways, this site was more satisfying than Borobudur.
We did our tour over 2 days to these sites. I think trying to do it in one day on a hot and humid day would be tiring
A good guide will also take you to clean places to eat, which our guide did. The food was excellent and amazing value for money.

Fantastic day with 3 beautiful activities - We had a fantastic day with Ilham as our driver. Ilham takes care of everything from safely transporting you to the various places to arranging bottled water. You don't have to worry about anything yourself, but everything in tune with you. Ilham is interested and noticeably enjoys sharing his knowledge about the area. The Prambanan, Merapi and Borobudur are really beautiful, so all in all we had a great day. Thanks again!

Amazing trip with an incredible guide!!! 5 stars experience!!! - What an amazing experience!!!
We were lucky enough to have Adit as our local guide today!!!
He was not just kind friendly and super funny but also 100 percent reliable Punctual , and we felt safe the whole trip
We arranged the pick up for 7:30 and he was already waiting for us outside of our Hotel. Beside the 3 booked locations he additionally took us to a local coffee manufacturer.And afterwards to a real local restaurant.
Adit is not just a real local but made us feel like we were his guests.
The whole day was a five out of five stars experience!!! And,Adit was The main reason for that. I would recommend him strongly for any activities around this beautiful area of Java.

Great guide and perfect timing. - Our driver for the day was Ilham and he was fantastic! He had great information and great recommendations. I would hope to have him again anytime. The tours were great, it was about 1.5 hours at Borobudur, 1.5 hours at Merapi, and 1.5 hours at Prambanan. We thought that was perfect timing, it was enough to hear the history and see the sights and then keep moving. Overall the day was about 10 hours long.

Amazing experience at Borobudur and Prambanan - Our guide Ilham was very friendly. He was interested in our home country, gave us some advice, and even stopped to let us try out some local fruit.
It was also useful that we didn't need to fix entrance tickets. Unfortunately the tickets to climb to the top of the Borobudur were sold out, but that is common during this period.
We could stay as long as we wanted at each stop, giving us the freedom to enjoy everything.

Extremely fun! Slightly disorganized. - Overall we had a great day and Yusron, our driver, was very nice. However there are some things I wish went differently. Firstly and most upsetting - the Viator website explicitly said we could buy temple tickets for Borobudur on the spot. This was not true. Tickets needed to be purchased a month in advance. So while we were able to explore the temple grounds we could not climb to the top. Secondly, our driver was not a tour guide and did not make it clear when and how to acquire a tour guide at Borobudur. Fortunately there were informative plaques around the temple but it was definitely a bummer not to be able to ask any questions. After Borobudur we clarified we wanted a guide for prambanan and then our driver arranged this for us for an out of pocket cost. The Prambanan guide we were paired with was excellent and well worth the cost. Our driver also took us to the chicken church which was not part of the scheduled tour, but was a great experience and only a 6minute drive from Borobudur. The jeep tour of Merapi was great! Overall would recommend just wish there was more clarity about temple tickets on the website and little bit more structure and guidance from the driver.
