The best day - You can trust that this excursion is as beautiful as the pictures show, and that the high praise given by others is deserved. Our guide, Arma, did a great job showing us the stunning beauty of the countryside north of Yogyakarta. It was an unforgettable day!
We were a little confused about the booking process itself on TripAdvisor, but we trusted the system and it all turned out fine.

Beautiful experience in Central Java's countryside - We had an amazing time on our tour with Arma.
This was a fantastic off-the-beaten path cultural experience.
We went to a beautiful waterfall and hiked down to the falls. Note to wear water sandals or take off shoes because you do need to cross some streams.
We then did rice trekking and had some tea and visited a historic temple. The rice fields and temple were stunning.
Overall, this was an amazing experience to get to learn a sense of the Central Java countryside. It's also an active day filled with fresh air, beautiful hiking, and cultural insights. I fully recommend it to anyone staying in Yogyakarata who wants to get a genuine sense of Java outside the big cities.

The perfect getaway from the city - The trip was simply great. Our guide Adit took us on an amazing walk right through the rice fields (with amazing views) and told us many interesting facts about Indonesian agriculture and the history of Indonesia and its religions. On the way we tasted some local coffee. The walk ended with a visit of the Selogriyo temple, nice and quiet place. Then we continued to the waterfall, which was also very beautiful.
The trip was very well planned and went smoothly, Adit took some very nice photos of us.

A Picturesque Day in Magelang - Your tour guide: Didik was punctual, friendly, knowledgeable and went above and beyond to give us a great experience. He was also a great driver (unlike some of the cabbies we’ve taken here) and a talented photographer!
Pickup details: We arranged pickup at our desired time and location in the morning via WhatsApp, one day prior to the tour.
Waiting time: Not a dull moment during this tour! Time was provided for a coffee break, lunch, and to enjoy the scenery at Candi Selogriyo and Air Terjun Kedung Kayang.
Value for money: Excellent value considering we were out and about from 8am-5pm and all entry/parking fees were covered. The only things we had to pay for were coffee and lunch.
What you loved:
The rice terraces along the way to Selogriyo Temple were stunning. Lush green paddy fields cascading in terraces in every direction, forming a sun-kissed panoramic landscape with banana, papaya, cassava, and coffee trees. The coffee trees were blooming when we visited and their lovely scent made our walk even more magical. Selogriyo temple is well maintained. We appreciated that this temple was not overcrowded; during our visit there were only 3-4 other small parties who respected the serene surroundings.
On our way back to the car we stopped at Selogriyo Coffee, a coffee shop that grows their beans on the hills behind the temple. Be sure to try their coffee as it is delicious, and you get to enjoy it in front of an amazing view.
For lunch, Didik recommended that we try a dish local to Magelang called Kupat Tahu, made of tofu and rice cakes in a savoury coconut sugar sauce. Very refreshing and we would have never found it ourselves.
Air Terjun Kedung Kayang was busy with local tourists because it was a holiday. A very cool landmark of a rushing waterfall which you can walk right up to! Unfortunately some trash on the ground, so pack out whatever you bring in. A few platforms for photo opportunities with the volcano in the background.
Throughout the tour, Didik took many photos of us which he shared with us promptly. We really appreciate these memories of our time in Magelang!
What could have been better: We have no critiques for this tour; it was a perfect day.
Tips for travelers: Wear sunscreen and bring a hat/sunglasses for the walk through the rice paddies along the way to Selogriyo Temple. The path to the Kedung Kayang waterfall includes walking through some shallow water then a few steps along a wet/muddy trail. Bring flip flops, a towel, and wear shorts and shoes that you can do a short hike in.
Overall, we had a great day mainly because Didik was an amazing guide. Highly recommend joining his tour.

Engulfed in nature’s serenity. - We started the tour with a warm greeting from our guide Arma. Arma has been a great guide and companion for this day tour. He was fluent in English and shared a lot about the locations and local Indonesian culture with us.
The trek to the waterfall was exceptionally fun as we had to cross water stream barefooted. The little adventure invigorated our walk towards the waterfall. Selogriyo was a beautiful village and we were the only group trekking through the vast rice field. We did a pitstop at a rustic cafe at the top of the hill overlooking the paddy fields.
The trek difficulty for both the waterfall and rice field were normal as the hike was manageable for my 6 year old son.
Kudos to Arma who was attentive towards a small child in his tour. He helped and guided my son on both hikes, answering all the ‘whats and whys’ from the 6 year old throughout the tour.

Wonderful tour ! - It's a wonderful tour! I was lucky to have Thomas as my guide, with whom I spent the entire day. Thomas was extremely generous, attentive, and a great host. He took me to amazing places, and when I told him that I love photography, he took me to spots with truly incredible photo opportunities. Thomas adjusted the trip based on the weather, feasibility, and temperature. He thought of every single detail and shared with me not only details about each place we visited but also immersed me in the culture and history of Indonesia, telling me everything with absolute generosity. Highly recommended! I'm super happy to have visited a breathtaking waterfall, the rice terraces, and to have been so close to Merapi!

Discover the Hidden Gems - Away from the hustle and bustle of the main tourist spots we found tranquillity amongst the beautiful rice terraces. There is even a small coffee shop that has been setup which serves the most delicious local coffee - although I would recommend a ginger chocolate. Selogriyo Temple can be found at the end of a walk through the terraces and is a very small temple but in the style of the much large Borobudur. Kedung Kayang waterfall is also very tranquil with the view from the top a real stunner - especially if Merapi is feeling generous (as it was for us) and comes out from behind the clouds. Our guide Adit was excellent - faultless English, a wonderful personality and every knowledgeable and eager to answer any and all of our questions about our stops, Yogyakarta or Indonesia. At our request he even found the perfect lunch stop to try kupat tahu as we love being about try the local specials. Not to mention the sing-a-long in the car heading between destinations. Thank you Adit for a memorable day!
