Douz - Continue to Twelve an hour. Located at the foot of the great desert dunes, it is known as the “gate of the Sahara”. Matmata - You continued to Matmata 2 hours to discover the famous cave houses, emblem of “Stars Wars”. These
dwellings were used as a decor for the interior of the Lars farm. Ingenious and built to withstand the climate, they are dug around a large circular open pit to capture light and thus keep a relatively regular temperature throughout the year. You’ll even have the opportunity to wander around some of them! The ultimate privilege is to have lunch at the Sidi Driss Hotel, itself a troglodyte, whose courtyard served as a decor for the Lars’ dining room and kitchen! Djerba Island - After breakfast, departure for the tour of the island of Djerba. Djerba has about twenty kilometers of blond sandy beaches, located mostly at the eastern end of the island. Houmt Souk - you will leave for Houmt Souk, capital of the island, famous for its busy and colorful souks that attract locals and visitors. Dinner and overnight in Djerba.
Djerba – Gabes – El Djem – Hammamet
Gabes - After breakfast, head to Gabes for 2 hours, former Phoenician counter before becoming a Roman colony. You will discover the “El Jara” market, infamous once for its slave market. Lunch along the way.
Amphitheatre of El Jem - Continuation “El Djem” 2 hours and a half, the ancient Thydrus, one of the richest cities of Roman Africa. Located at the gates of the Sahel region, it is famous for its amphitheatre, the largest in the Roman Empire after the Colosseum of Rome! From the steps, you can admire the architectural masterpiece. Continuation to Hammamet or Tunis. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
Hammamet – Tunis Medina – Carthage – Sidi Bou Said
Medina of Tunis - After breakfast, an hour drive and you will discover the medina of Tunis, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Some 700 monuments including palaces, mosques, mausoleums, medersas and fountains bear witness to this remarkable past.
Carthage - Lunch. You will leave for a guided tour of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Carthage, which means “new city” in Phoenician. Founded on the Gulf of Tunis, Carthage established from the 6th century a trading empire extending over much of the Mediterranean world and was the seat of a brilliant civilization.
Sidi Bou Said - Continuation to Sidi Bou Said, known as the Saint Tropez of Tunisia. Perched on a cliff overlooking Carthage and the Gulf of Tunis, this charming place will seduce you with the wonderful sweetness of life that reigns there. You can walk freely in this small village with Arab and Andalusian architecture. Sidi Bou Said’s houses, brightly white with blue doors, are scattered randomly along winding alleys, now known as the “little white and blue paradise”. Dinner and overnight at the hotel in Tunis or Hammamet.
