A Journey Through Georgia’s Wine Province

Our next stop was Mosmieri, a more luxurious winery where we made a brief visit. The real highlight, however, was the Kondoli wine cellar. Here, we met a 48-year-old winemaker whose dedication to his craft was evident in every bottle he produced. Living alone while his family pursued a sports career in Western Europe, he poured his heart and soul into his wines.

Vaska translated the winemaker’s every word, guiding us through the intricate process of making natural wines. We learned about the traditional Georgian chants that accompany the winemaking process, adding a layer of cultural richness to the experience. It was a privilege to witness such dedication to preserving the natural beauty and heritage of the region.

As the sun began to set, we tasted two different Cha-chas, each with its own unique flavor profile. The winemaker’s personal history was as captivating as his wines, and I felt a deep connection to the land and its people.

A Sunset Drive Through Kakheti

As we made our way back to Tbilisi, the sun dipped below the horizon, painting the sky in hues of orange and pink. The drive through Kakheti’s stunning landscapes was a fitting end to a day filled with discovery and delight. Vaska took the wheel, allowing us to relax and reflect on the day’s experiences.

From the backseat, we played DJ, curating a soundtrack that matched the mood of the evening. The combination of wine, music, and the open road created a sense of freedom and joy that I will carry with me long after the tour ended.
