Highlights
  • Enoshima Island - Enoshima is a quaint island off the coast of Kamakura. Legend has it that the island was created in 552 AD when the goddess Benzaiten emerged from the sea and subdued a five-headed dragon that was menacing the nearby village. The dragon and the goddess fell in love and became the island’s protectors. Benzaiten, the patron of music and art, attracts many visitors to her shrine on Enoshima, where they seek her blessings. The shrine is renowned for its vibrant statue of Benzaiten with eight arms. Enoshima has been a favored tourist spot since the Edo period, particularly among Kabuki actors who revere Benzaiten’s artistic prowess.
  • Kamakura High School - Kamakura High School served as the inspiration for Shohoku High School in the beloved manga and anime series Slam Dunk. Fans can visit the intersection near the station where the protagonist Sakuragi Hanamichi first encountered his crush Akagi Haruko. Visitors can also capture photos of the school, the sea, and the streets featured in the series. This location holds nostalgic value for many who grew up with Slam Dunk in the 80s and 90s.

Shonan coast walk From the railway crossing and the road, you can descend the stairs to the picturesque Shonan coast, one of Japan’s premier surfing destinations. Enjoy the beach, the waves, and the serene atmosphere. On a clear day, you might even spot Mount Fuji on the horizon. The Shonan coast is also a popular setting for numerous Japanese TV shows, movies, and other media. ※Please note that access to the coast may be restricted due to weather conditions or other unforeseen circumstances.

  • Enoden Bus Kamakura Office - Enoden is a delightful streetcar that travels between Fujisawa and Kamakura, offering views of Kamakura’s renowned attractions and the beautiful Shonan coast. Enoden is an iconic symbol of Kamakura and frequently appears in anime and movies. Enjoy the scenic view from a distance or take a ride on the streetcar for a delightful experience.

  • Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine - Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine is a historic Shinto shrine established in the 12th century by Minamoto no Yoritomo, the first shogun of the Kamakura Shogunate. Dedicated to Hachiman, the god of war and patron of the samurai, it is one of Kamakura’s most significant shrines and a symbol of Japanese heritage. The shrine’s expansive grounds feature many sites designated as National Historic Sites. Visitors can admire the architecture, gardens, and statues, purchase lucky charms, or make a wish at the shrine. The shrine is particularly famous for its cherry blossoms and maple trees, drawing many visitors during spring and autumn. It has also been awarded one star in the Michelin Tourist Guide.
  • Kotoku-in (Great Buddha of Kamakura) - The Great Buddha of Kamakura is a bronze statue of Amitabha Buddha, the central figure in Pure Land Buddhism, located in the Kotoku-in Temple, which dates back to the 13th century. Standing at approximately 11.4 meters tall and weighing around 121 tons, it is one of Kamakura’s most iconic landmarks and a symbol of Japanese Buddhism.
