The journey to the Amaharashi Coast takes about an hour.
- Amaharashi Coast - The tour’s first stop is the renowned Amaharashi. This area has appeared in historical records several times. Initially, a famous poet passed through and wrote about its beauty in the Man’yoshu, Japan’s most celebrated poetry anthology. A general and his troops also took refuge among the coastal rocks, which remain visible today. The view is breathtaking, featuring a small island set against the snow-capped peaks of the Central Japan Alps. You’ll have time to explore the coast from various perspectives and shop at the tourist information center across the street. After enjoying this area, the tour will continue further up the coast to explore more hidden gems!
- Takaoka - Nearby lies the historic city of Takaoka, rich in traditions and fascinating architecture. Takaoka was the second city of the Maeda family during the Edo period, known for its metalworking and other industries. This metalworking heritage is evident throughout the city, especially at the Takaoka Great Buddha in the town center. The tour will visit here first, then allow you to explore the city and find lunch. There are numerous restaurants to choose from, so take a stroll and discover them!
The drive to the Shokawa River Cruise takes about 40 minutes.
- Shō River - After lunch, the group will head to the day’s final destination, the Shokawa Valley and cruise! For centuries, this river has been the main link between the mountain town of Gokayama and the outside world. When it was dammed in 1930, a modern boat service was established to facilitate the transport of people and goods to the towns and cities below. This service continues today with the Shokawa Cruise, which you’ll experience! The boat ride lasts about an hour and ten minutes, offering views of the area’s stunning mountains. You’ll see two impressive red bridges spanning the river, numerous waterfalls, and an onsen overlooking the water. The boat features an outdoor second floor and a climate-controlled first floor, allowing you to enjoy the ride in comfort!
The return trip to Kanazawa Station, marking the end of the tour, takes between 40 minutes and an hour.
