Built in the Dravidian architectural style, the temple is celebrated in the Nalayira Divya Prabandham, the early medieval Tamil canon of the Alvar saints from the 6th to the 9th centuries CE. It is one of the 108 Divya Desams dedicated to Lord Vishnu, worshipped as Vaikuntanathan (meaning ‘Lord of Vaikunta’) and his consort, Goddess Lakshmi as Sri Vaikundavalli. Kailasanatha Temple - The architecturally stunning Kailasanathar Temple:
This temple is the first of its kind in stone architecture, unlike other Pallava structures that were stone-carved or rock-cut. Its granite foundation supports the weight of the entire massive structure. With over 58 shrines set in niches along the compound wall, the temple is a masterpiece of sandstone construction. The mandapa pillars feature statues of lions standing on their hind legs, symbolizing protection of the temple.
This magnificent temple offers a remarkable visual experience that must be seen to be appreciated.
