Visitors will explore the 8th-century Masroor Rock Temples, a collection of intricately carved rock temples situated about 30 miles from Kangra town. These temples are unique in North India, carved from a single monolithic rock. Nearby, a large water pond enhances the serene atmosphere. The temple grounds offer breathtaking views of the snow-covered Dhauladhar mountains.
- Kangra Fort - The next stop is Kangra Fort, belonging to the Katoch dynasty, reputed to be India’s oldest surviving dynasty. Perched atop a steep hill, the fort is strategically positioned at the confluence of the River Majhi and River Banganga. Despite its ruined state, the fort provides magnificent views of the surrounding landscape.
Lunch will be at a nearby restaurant (at guests’ own expense).
Post-lunch, the tour continues to the Mata Brajeshwari Temple, reconstructed in 1905 after a devastating earthquake destroyed the original structure. According to the Hindu epic Mahabharata, the original temple was built by the Pandavas, who received a divine vision from Goddess Durga instructing them to construct a temple in her honor. The temple was historically rich with gold and silver, attracting multiple raids by Muslim invaders.
After visiting the temple, guests can enjoy some time at the local market.
The tour concludes with a return drive to Dharamshala, where guests will be dropped off at their hotel.
