After everybody is ready, we will start our 30 minutes walk to the the reindeer calving area where we will guide you through the fantastic landscape of the Arctic tundra. This walk tunes you into a deep and peaceful mind and we will tell you all about the landscape, the area, snow and mountains around us.
When we arrive, you can sit on a reindeer hide outside, and relax and enjoy the moment fully, and after a while you can join us around the bonfire, where we will tell you everything we know about reindeer calving. We will serve you broth and fresh coffee brewed traditionally on an open fire, and you will even get to taste dried reindeer meat. During this adventure you will get to see the reindeer herd close up, and if you are lucky, you might even see reindeer giving birth. You will learn a lot about our traditions and our culture, and will also get the opportunity to feed the reindeer. This sure is a once in a lifetime experience.

From the 15th of May to the 15th of June, we continuously oversee the female reindeers as they give birth to their calves in order to protect them from predators such as eagles, bears, wolverines, lynx, and even crows.
When you visit us, you will get a chance to get up close to the reindeer herd, and if fortune favors, you may witness the miracle of childbirth in reindeer. You will also gain insights into the traditions and culture of the Sámi people, the only indigenous population in Europe. Living in the Arctic region, our nights are already significantly long this time of year, leading to what feels like a state of perpetual midnight sun. This experience is indeed unique and can be classified as once-in-a-lifetime.
We welcome you to this distinctive journey to our birthing reindeer herd located in Karasjok, Northern Norway. The trip to the calving terrain is a rare adventure that only a select few have the chance to participate in since it’s a unique and exclusive service in Norway, as far as we know.
- Other things to note: Please remember to dress up warmly, with many layers (at least 3), to enjoy our time outdoors.
