Book it! Great bushwalking koala & kangaroo/wallaby tour - My husband and I just happened to be driving by, and saw the sign for the "Hansen Bay Wildlife Sanctuary, tours at 10:30 & (14:30) 2:30". We drove in and arrived just as the 2:30 (14:30) tour was beginning. The tour guide came over and we exclaimed that although we had not booked (strongly recommended), we would love to join the tour, if possible. It was our lucky day!! She had run for 2 more and allowed us to join the tour and pay at the end of the tour.
She took us on a bushwalk through the sanctuary, and pointed out local plants, showed us evidence of the 2020 fires and how they had affected the animals and the vegetatian, as well as what the sanctuary had done to help the animals that survived the fire get enough food and water to continue to thrive. She allowed the group to look for koalas and wallabies (and then pointed them out if none of us spotted them). She shared info about the koalas habits, diet, mating, etc and patiently answered any questions that we had.
After that part of the tour, we all got into a sanctuary van and she took us out to one of their several watering holes to allow us to see many kangaroos and their two black swans.
The tour was fun, informative, and it was great seeing animals in their own habitat! We would strongly suggest this tour to anyone who wants to go on a wildlife tour. You won't regret it!

An exceptional guided walk. - We visited Hanson Wildlife Sanctuary on a recommendation. We were not disappointed.
Tom our guide was fantastic! He is a wealth of knowledge on the local area including history and major events. We were able to view Koala's, Cape Barren Geese, Western Grey Kangaroos & Tammar Wallabies as well as the native flora. The casual walk through the bush was so enjoyable having Tom point interesting things out as he saw them and answering our questions.
A wonderful experience thank you Tom.

Great tour - Great tour. Saw two mothers and joeys and several males who were being very vocal and then even mating happening which even the guide hadn’t seen before. Tour lasted an hour and a half and included a short minibus ride to see the other wildlife but tge koalas were the stars.

good - first guided tour i ever had on koala, which helped in my subsequent day spotting of koala in stokes bay by myself
the koalas are already spotted by staff prior to the tour so there is no need to "hunt" for them

Koalas, fire and culture - The guide made the walking tour interesting and informative. The information and experiences shared were first hand and not learnt from a book, adding a layer of lived experience to the tour. Any itinerary will be incomplete without this walking tour.

A beautiful walk through nature - Tom was our guide. He took us for a lovely stroll through the sanctuary. He shed light on how KI is progressing following the devastating fires from a few years back. We saw so many animals including kangaroos, wallabies, koalas, geese and the rare glossy black
Cockatoo. Amazing time. Thank you Tom

Beautiful way to see wildlife - We loved this tour of the wildlife sanctuary. No cages, no fences just wildlife in their natural environment. Tom was a knowledgeable guide and we learnt a lot about the animals and their habitat. If you love walking in nature, this is a must do!

Best Experience in Australia - This Tour was simply the Highlight of 3 weeks in Australia! Walking around in the park with a very competent guide with a lot of valuable information, we saw so many animals - and very close up with the most beautiful Coalas. This is how a Tour in the Wild should be done - we where honored guests in the animal kingdom of Cangaroo Island - Galapagos of Australia.

Take a tour and your money will help the sanctuary get back on its feet. - Very enjoyable and informative walk through the sanctuary. We did the 10.30am tour and sighted 5 koalas in trees and a number of kangaroos and Cape Barron geese. I suggest taking a pair of binoculars as the koalas can be quite high up in the tree and difficult to spot. There was a short video to watch at the end of the tour which included footage of the fires that destroyed almost everything in early 2020.

A Big Disappointment! - We were not able to take this excursion. We arrived on the island on a cruise which docked on the opposite side of the island than the excursion meeting point. I called the excursion provider and they informed me we were 75 minutes away from the meeting point. They did not provide a pick up or any transportation. There were no taxis, Ubers or buses on the island. No refund was offered or provided by the excursion provider. Disappointing.
