We visit Kailasanathar temple of Pallava dynasty to appreciate these architectural wonders built in the 7th century by by Pallava king Rajasimha known as Narasimhavarman II. The Kanchi Kailasanathar temple is famous for its magnificent Vimana, the gopuram over the Sanctum Sanctorum. It speaks volumes of architectural beauty that flourished in the reign of Pallava King.
  • Ekambareswarar Temple - Ekambareswarar Temple is one of the famous Hindu temples dedicated to Lord Shiva.

It is one of the five major Shiva temples or Pancha Bootha Sthalams (each representing a natural element) representing the element - Earth. The other four temples in this category are Thiruvanaikaval Jambukeswara (water), Chidambaram Natarajar (ether), Thiruvannamalai Arunachaleswara (fire) and Kalahasti Nathar (wind).

  • Kanchipuram - Next in our agenda is to meet the legendary Silk Saree Weavers of Kanchipuram.

Kanchipuram is renowned for its magnificent Silk Sarees. Silk Sarees are a cultural icon in South India. Ranging in length from 6-9 yards, these Sarees are worn by women during auspicious occasions like a wedding or a birthday. There are more than 5000 families who are into the business of silk weaving. The sarees are weaved from pure mulberry silk thread.

The traditional loom is an incredible machine used by the silk weavers to magically convert the silk threads into a beautiful Kanchipuram Silk Saree.

We will visit one such Weaver and it will be a memorable experience.

It will be a fascinating experience to see how the sarees are weaved from pure mulberry silk thread.

Great day in Kanchipuram - Extremely interesting tour with Nivi. The 2 Hindu Temples we saw were very different from each other and both were very beautiful. Nivi was full of information about the history of the temples and made sure we got good photos. Also really enjoyed the silk shop where you can see weaving being performed and buy a keepsake. Prices were very reasonable and they had many beautiful options. We did not feel pressured to buy anything. The Tali South Indian (other restaurants available if you don’t want Indian food) lunch was a very good way to top off a great day. Nivi also explained what we were served and the best way to enjoy our food.

A deep and profound experience! - This was my third tour with Five Senses and our guide Kannan. If you want to see the sites with someone who knows the locations intimately well and truly cares to share with you the details that make Chennai special, this is the tour guide you want! For a westerner that is unfamiliar with eastern religions it is truly a blessing to have a guide that takes their time to make the temples and their rituals so accessible and relatable. You will walk away from your tour feeling enriched by this truly profound and unique experience and gain a new appreciation for the wonderful people you are surrounded by. Thank you for yet another amazing day Five Senses and Kannan - I can’t wait for my next Chennai trip!

Kanchi- city with spirit and soul - Kanchipuram is an ancient city with historic temples. Kannan, our 5 Senses Guide, brought those national treasures to life through his narration. We had a mixed age group (18 yrs- 81 yrs). Kannan paid attention to our needs. He made sure our Seniors enjoyed the spiritual aspects with the appropriate level of physical activity. For the rest of us, he made the stops at the temples and the Silk Weaver demo an informative and interactive experience. Our Kanchi trip was combined with an extra day in Pondicherry. A lot of time was spent on the road giving us the opportunity to soak up rural Tamilnadu. The driver and vehicle were excellent and made the journey pleasant and memorable. Thank you to Kannan and the 5 Sesnes team!

Amazing guided tour! - We went on this excursion as a family with people ranging from 18 to 80 years old. Our guide Kannan was amazing, narrating only as needed while giving us plenty of time to observe and absorb the rich culture that Kanchipuram presents. We were a private party and we were able to customize our experience on the fly. We added a couple of unscheduled stops and they were able to accommodate it with ease. I would strongly recommend Five Senses for this guided tour.

Five Senses was a sure bet: A+++ - Five Senses organized a spectacular tour for us of Kanichipuram. Our tour guide Hareesh most skillfully combined an overview of cultural and historical highlights. It was a perfect day (it was also my second tour with Five Senses. They were flawless the first time, too).

Historical sights & very knowledgeable guide - Kanaan was the best guide. He patiently talked me through the history & stories behind the sights of Kanchipurum. It was fascinating to hear the context of the impressive temples & understand the historical significance of everything. The tour included a wonde Thali which included many dishes - I only wish I could have finished it. Would definitely recommend to anyone!!

Worth the travel time - just - Pleasant guide. Was flexible. Closing time of temples at 12.30 limited the temples to just 2. But worth seeing even given the cost and long travel time.
